Prince Harry moved to Montecito with Meghan in 2020 and he has since developed a daily routine which includes a very surprising hobby he likes to share with son Archie
Prince Harry has picked up a surprising pastime since moving to California with Meghan Markle – and he can enjoy it from the comfort of their own home.
Meghan revealed all in a brief clip from the couple’s 2022 Netflix series as she filmed Harry and their son Archie together in the garden. The pair could be seen standing in front of a bird feeder as Hummingbirds begin to land, with Harry remaining very still as he films them flying around in front of him.
Meghan can then be heard suppressing her giggles and saying: “Papa is a bird watcher so this is a really big moment for him.” Harry and Meghan have lived in Montecito for four years, moving Stateside after quitting royal life. And it seems the Duke has a regular day-to-day routine. “Normally when you see him around here, he’s walking his Labrador on the beach or on his bicycle followed by his security in a Range Rover,” a neighbour of the couple told The Telegraph , which also noted that Harry “marvels at the local birds” and tends to his chickens.
There is a long meditation in his diary each day – and often a workout with a personal trainer. But according to royal author Tom Quinn, it can all get a little dull. He previously told the Mirror: “His 100% support for his wife and her business ventures has never wavered, but he doesn’t really have very much to do on a day-to-day basis. After he’s taken the dog for a walk and maybe gone for a drive, he has nothing to do other than support Meghan.”
Meanwhile, Meghan is a much-more visible member of the community, and is said to spend her time visiting the local farmer’s market, having lunch with friends, and taking part in a mahjong group. It comes amid reports that Harry is looking to find a permanent base back in Britain. Royal author and expert Tom Quinn exclusively told the Mirror : “As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”
He added: “He misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan. Harry is determined to find his own permanent home in the UK, which is partly why he’s continuing his legal action to get the British taxpayer to pay for his security.”
Harry and Meghan were evicted from their royal residence, Frogmore Cottage, in 2023. The couple had stepped down from royal duties at the start of 2020 and moved to California, where they have continued to live on a full-time basis. Harry had hoped to keep their UK home as a base for any future visits, but in March 2023 they were instructed to move out . A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan at the time confirmed they “have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage”.
Prince Harry’s hopes for a UK home come as he continues his legal battle against the UK Home Office. The Duke has taken the Home Office to court over the level of taxpayer-funded security he receives while in the UK after it was downgraded in the wake of his and Meghan’s stepping down as senior working royals in 2020. He lost his bid to restore his taxpayer-funded security earlier this year, a decision he plans to appeal.
In an interview for ITV’s documentary Tabloids on Trial, which aired on 25 July, Harry shared his concerns for his and his family’s safety. “It’s still dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff to act on what they have read,” he said. “And whether it’s a knife or acid, whatever it is, and these are things that are of genuine concern for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”
