A huge manhunt is underway after a person was rushed to hospital with severe injuries following a “serious assault”.

Police want to trace a male suspect believed to have caused injuries to the victim – whom he knew – on Wednesday night in West Hoe, Plymouth. Emergency services descended on the neighbourhood, where one witness had said they saw CPR being administered to someone.

The victim, whose gender has not been disclosed, was rushed to Derriford Hospital in the Devon city. However, “extensive enquiries and searches” continue across West Hoe and neighbouring areas to locate the male suspect.

Devon and Cornwall Police are yet to, at this stage, offer a description of the man but have reassured the community “there is no immediate threat to the wider public.” People are, though, still advised to avoid the West Hoe area while the complex investigation continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “We have a large police presence in the area and enquiries are ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect. We believe this is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the wider public. We would ask members of the public to please stay away from the West Hoe area of the city while we continue our investigation.”
