Pizza Express is set to launch a new concept called “Pizza Pods” within Tesco stores in the UK.

According to the restaurant chain’s website, it is hiring positions for its very first “PizzaExpress Pod” at the Tesco Extra store in Bursledon in Southampton. The job posting says the pod is an “exciting new concept” but has not shared anything further, including whether the concept will be rolled out across more supermarket stores across the country. Pizza Express is recruiting for three roles for the Southampton site which include a site manager, a supervisor, and a team member.

The job advert for the site manager says: “Join an exciting new concept for Pizza Express – our very first Pizza Express Pod! With an entrepreneurial mindset, you’ll lead with flair, honing your business skills, seize sales opportunities and drive your team to commercial success. As a hands-on manager, you’ll recruit, train, and lead your team, as well as create our iconic pizzas and an unforgettable customer experience.

Pizza Express confirmed the concept but did not share any other details. It is understood that the pods will provide a more food-on-the-go offering compared to a normal Pizza Express restaurant. A Pizza Express spokesperson told the MCA publication: “Whilst we have almost 360 restaurants across the UK and Ireland, we know there are many people in towns and cities across the country who want to enjoy their favourite Pizza Express pizza and dough balls.

“As such, we are always looking at new and innovative ideas to make that happen – like our recent opening at Gatwick airport. We are also working on the other early-stage concepts to get our proper pizza to the planet, both here in the UK and around the world and we look forward to sharing more details later in 2025. With this space!” The Mirror has approached Pizza Express and Tesco for comment.
