‘Really helps me and my joints’

Shoppers are praising a daily Omega-3 supplement which they say is helping to improve ‘clicky joints’ – and some are even saying they ‘can’t be without it’. What’s more, the brand is currently running a promotion where shoppers can save money on the product.

The Vegan Omega-3 1,000mg capsules are currently available from Dr Vegan for £21.99 for a one-off purchase of one pouch, but the best value can be found with the subscription options, where three pouches every 90 days costs £53.09, down from £65.97 – working out at around 59p per day, with the recommendation of two softgels taken daily either with or without food.

However, the brand is running a deal at the moment, where shoppers can enjoy a further 15% off with the code VOM3. According to Dr Natalie Mesnier MD, an orthopaedic surgeon who writes for a website called pdxfootandankle.com, Omega-3 fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fats and are crucial for maintaining various bodily functions.

There are three types of Omega-3 fatty acids – ALA, EPA and DHA – and Dr Mesnier says these are “essential” because our bodies cannot produce them on their own. Omega-3s are said to offer a wide range of health benefits, including being able to support heart health, brain function, and joint health.

With the Vegan Omega-3 1,000mg capsules from Dr Vegan, these are said to support a healthy brain, heart, and vision, with high-strength vegan Omega-3 and ‘optimal DHA and EPA’. The brand says the Omega-3 has been sustainably sourced from plant algae without damaging marine ecosystems – and there is ‘no fishy smell’ to the supplement.

Ariella Kaur Maan, a registered nutritionist and nutritional therapy practitioner who leads the Practitioner Program at Dr Vegan, has spoken about the benefits of Omega-3, as well as the issues relating to a deficiency. She said: “A deficiency in Omega-3 can lead to fatigue, joint aches, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, acne and skin conditions, weak hair and nails, and other issues.

“The body cannot make Omega-3 fats and therefore relies on getting it from your diet or supplements. There are three types of Omega-3 fats – DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and ALA (alpha linolenic acids). It is very hard to gain sufficient EPA and DHA every day if you don’t eat fish or a consistent, healthy balanced diet.”

Speaking about the benefits, she continued to say that there are studies showing the benefits of Omega-3 for people who have osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and that it is beneficial for heart health by balancing the levels of other fats in the blood.

She also said that Omega-3 ‘DHA’ is needed for the brain structure, and Omega-3 ‘EPA’ is needed for communication between brain cells, meaning the supplement can help to support overall brain function. However, it is worth noting that Omega-3 is not a substitute for medical treatments or a healthy, balanced diet and fitness regime.

As an alternative, there’s the Myvitamins Essential Omega-3 Softgels, 90 Softgels, for £5, down from £9.99, at LookFantastic. The listing says these Omega-3 capsules provide essential fatty acids for overall well-being.

Or at Holland and Barrett, there’s the Equazen 360 Chewable Capsules for £55.37. The brand says this contains a precise blend of PUFAs: Omega-3 EPA and DHA from fish oil, and Omega-6 GLA from primrose oil.

Returning to the Vegan Omega-3 1,000mg capsules from Dr Vegan, shoppers have left rave reviews. One said: “Another great product that I use. Really helps me and my joints, as I love to regularly work out at the gym. At 54, I’ve really noticed the difference since taking them.”

While a second said: “Taking this for clicky joints that appeared during perimenopause. After three months, looking back I can see it’s helping.”

Others left some feedback, with one writing: “Great products, well made, but the latest batch of pouches don’t reseal, I’m having to reuse older ones.”

Overall, though, most were pleased as another person said: “I have now been on this product for two years, and I can’t be without it. Highly recommend for anyone who suffers from stiff and painful joints. No fishy taste, and brilliant benefits.“I have always found cod liver oil beneficial to my health, but I hated what it was and where it came from. In the past, I have tried other Omega-3 substitutes that have never come close or have given me an unhappy tum. This all changed when I tried Dr Vegan’s Vegan Omega-3! I have been using this product for a month and can’t believe the positive difference in my joints, hair, and skin. It really has taken away my painful and stiff joints, with the added positivity of affecting my sleep in a great way. I have now subscribed, so I never run out!”
