Some rare coins can be worth a few hundreds, but there’s one in particular which could flog for an eye-watering £1million. So do you have this gem lurking in your pocket?

Owning a coin collection can be worthwhile as some might sell for more than face value.

Whether it’s the “ultra-rare” Kew Gardens 50p coin or the “rarest” piece in the UK, it’s always good to check your rare coin stash. Now it’s time to turn your attention to pennies from centuries ago as these can still flog for a jackpot without you realising.

Over on TikTok, user @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 212,000 followers, revealed three special penny coins to keep an eye on – with one worth £1million. So do you have any of these?

In the video, he said: “In 1950, they only made 240,000 coins that means for £1,000 you could have bought all the 1950 pennies ever made. After the war there was a great shortage of small change.

“So to find a 1950 UK pre-decimal penny today, you are looking at between £30-£70, depending on condition.” Next up was the 1918 KN penny which the value “depends on the condition”.

The user added: “A good grade 1918 KN penny can be over £30 but as the condition increases, such as an extra fine version, you would be looking at over £600.” But while these are worth a few pounds or hundreds, there’s an even more valuable coin.

Discussing the 1954 penny, the TikTok poster revealed: “This is one of Britain’s most famous coin rarities, many other coins are of equal or greater rarity, but for some reason the 1954 has become the best known of these rarities.

“If for some crazy reason you ended up with a 1954 penny though even if only one is known to exist, then you really could be a millionaire.” Even though there aren’t many of these coins lying around, it’s still worth checking your stash.

The video scooped 1,000 likes and comments since it was posted as one wrote: “I have lots of these,” while another added: “Oh my I have loads of these.” Then others asked how to sell their coins to make a jackpot.
