The traumatic experience Paris Fury has now spoken publicly about will be familiar to anyone who has lost a child before, and her breaking of the taboo shows real courage

Tyson Fury’s bravery in the ring is well known. But his wife has been equally courageous by speaking about the loss of their eighth child.

By telling her story, Paris Fury hopes to break the taboo surrounding late-term miscarriages and give comfort to thousands of other mothers who each year lose a child in this way.

Her experience will be familiar to anyone who has endured similar heartache. As she says, it is important that mothers do not blame themselves or grieve in isolation.

Care offered to distraught parents can vary widely. Some hospitals offer excellent support while in others referral to a counsellor or a charity can take weeks.

By sharing her experience, Paris has not just given comfort to others, she has prompted a much-needed debate on baby loss.

It’s time to pay

Desperate Tories trying to compare this week’s Budget with Liz Truss’s debacle are on a hiding to nothing.

The 45-day flop caused a financial implosion for which we are still paying with higher mortgages and rents. By contrast, the market jitters which followed Rachel Reeves’ statement have already subsided.

There are valid questions about some aspects of it. But most of the criticisms are either far-fetched or the squeals of a rich few.

However there are two inescapable truths and Labour’s opponents cannot ignore them. The Chancellor had to raise taxes because of the black hole left by the Tories. And if you want to have decent public services then you have to pay for them.

Pizza the action

The King, keen to make up for lost time after his cancer treatment, has an action- packed series of engagements next year.

These will include an official visit to Italy. As far as the monarch is concerned the pasta is behind him. And the pesto is yet to come.
