‘I bought my first Oodie two years ago and it’s paid for itself in terms of the money saved not turning the heating on while working from home’

The temperature has plummeted, and as the chance of snow, hail, and ice feels more imminent, many shoppers are now looking for a cosy way to stay warm in the mornings and evenings. Thanks to Oodie’s early winter sale, you can now get 50% off its fleece-lined hooded blankets.

The winter-warmer brand has launched its 2024 Boxing Day sale early, offering as much as £55 off outdoor jackets and £36 off its distinct wearable Oodies. That includes the fluffy Navy and white Original Oodie that a member of our team used to ditch their central heating.

Narin Flanders cut her heating bill down after buying the cosy £65 blanket-like Oodie, which is now on sale for only £29. Now a self-confessed ‘superfan’ of the brand, she has bought several of the snug blankets-turned-hoodies in a bid to use less heating around the house but still stay warm.

In what she brands as ‘one of the best winter buys’, she said: “When I bought my Oodie in 2022, they were very much the new thing. Coming off the back of COVID-19, there seemed to be a genuine interest in loungewear, which, paired with the cost of living crisis and rising energy bills (I guess some things never change), these huge fleecy hooded blankets came with a premium price tag.

“At the time, I was a bit worried that something I was only wearing around the house couldn’t be worth that kind of outlay, but more than two years on, it’s paid for itself time over in terms of money saved not turning the heating on while working from home.”

In the current December sale, the original Grey, Navy, and funky designs like the Avocado and Unicorn prints are all reduced to £29. Oodies have become a well-known staple among shoppers, along with the likes of Kudd.ly and DryRobe, for keeping toasty in freezing winter weather, which is why they often receive a host of positive reviews.

“Excellent quality and very warm (…) I would recommend to anyone looking for a way to save on heating,” said one online shopper. Another said it felt like they were “wearing a cloud.” They added: “This onesie is the comfiest, softest and cosiest thing you will ever wear. I instantly feel sleepy and relaxed when I put it on.”

However, not everyone felt the same. One shopper said, “I do love my onesie. The only thing is I wish it was a little bit thicker.” Another wearer said they loved their cosy Oodie, but the toggle did fall off after one wear. If you’d prefer something more tight-fitting for lounging around, then its onesies are also reduced — from £75 to a much cheaper £39.

“When I put The Oodie on, I very quickly noticed the difference in how warm I felt. Even sitting at the laptop without moving for an hour or two at a time,” said Narin, who was surprised at how the wearable blankets kept out the cold. “I’d normally suddenly feel really cold and have to stand up and make a brew, but instead, I was getting up to stretch my legs rather than because I couldn’t feel them anymore.”

Rival brand Kudd.ly, which sells similar warm blanket-like jumpers, is currently running a buy one, get one free sale. The sale includes wearable blankets and heated slippers for £29.
