A one-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital after falling into a river in Leicestershire, sparking a huge emergency services repsonse.
Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and the air ambulance raced over to Welland Park, in Market Harborough, on the morning of Saturday, December 21, following reports of a child in the water. Officers were called to the park at around 11.15am after the tot fell into the water, with a member of the public jumping in to rescue her before crews arrived.
In an update, police said the girl was discharged from hospital on Christmas Eve. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Around 11.15am on Saturday (21 December) we were called to Welland Park in Market Harborough after a report that a 12-month old girl had fallen into some water. She was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.”
It comes after a one-year-old boy was left in a critical condition in a horror crash which saw a car smash into pedestrians in Barnsley.
A 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while emergency services rushed a one-year-old boy to hospital – where they said he was fighting for his life after having suffered critical injuries. Police were called to the site of the crash, involving a blue Volkswagen Polo, on Sunday morning.
The car had swerved off the road and ploughed into a wall in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley before cops were called at 11:41am. South Yorkshire Police said the driver of the Volkswagen stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. Members of the public are also being urged to come forward if they were in the area, or might have any CCTV or dashcam footage that happened to pick up the crash.
A force spokesperson said: “We’re appealing for information and witnesses after the death of a man and the critical injury of a toddler following a road traffic collision in Barnsley. At 11.41am yesterday (Sunday 22 December) officers were called to West Street in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley to reports of a collision involving a car and two pedestrians.
“The driver of the Volkswagen stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.
