The Primark in Nottingham city centre has been closed following reports of a 17-year-old being stabbed in front of horrified shoppers today

A Primark has been cordoned off after a boy was stabbed in front of horrified shoppers in Nottingham.

The 17-year-old victim was attacked “in full view” of horrified witnesses who were shopping at the popular budget clothing store at around 11.30pm. After the attack, the suspect fled the scene in the direction of the centre of town.

Police say that their initial investigation has revealed there was an altercation outside a nearby shop between a group of young people. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene and he was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. His condition is currently unknown. Detectives have urged witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.

“This was an appalling act of violence carried out in full view of members of the public,” said Detective Inspector Paul Shortt. “A team of detectives is now working to understand exactly what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident.

“To this end they want to hear from anyone who saw or heard any part of what happened. No matter how significant you think your information may be, we want to hear from you without delay.”

Speaking outside the store, one woman aged in her 40s, who did not wish to be named, said: “If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere. There’s no deterrent and clearly it’s just a normal day when that happens now.

“Grim is the word for it. You don’t want your kids cooped up in their room but when they go out, this happens” – doesn’t want to be named.”

A nearby store manager added: “I’ve been trying to find out what’s happened. I’ve got my area manager on the phone terrified and I’m just trying to fill them in. Why is it even happening?”

People who were in the area at the time told Nottinghamshire Live that a violent “skirmish” had happened in the upper floor of the clothing store.

Another person nearby said: “Apparently there was some sort of skirmish up there. We didn’t see it but we were just saying how unsettling it is.”

Primark remains closed on Sunday afternoon as police continue to investigate. The entrances off Long Row and Clumber Street are both taped off.

Anyone with information about this incident should call 101 quoting incident 241 of 23 February 2025. Information can also be passed in confidence to Crimestoppers.
