Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, 31 was arrested by police officers on Thursday morning and is due to appear at Westminster Magistates Court on Friday March 27 after being charged

An NHS doctor has been charged with four counts of inviting support for Hamas, the Metropolitan Police said.

Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, 31, was arrested by Met officers at her home address in Pilning, South Gloucestershire, on Thursday morning, the force said, for allegedly breaching police bail conditions imposed following previous arrests.

She was then taken to a central London police station where she was charged with four counts of inviting support for Hamas, a proscribed group, in breach of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The Metropolitan Police said the charges date from July 23 to December 31 last year, and relate to comments or material posted online.

The charges come after an investigation by the Met’s Public Order Crime Team, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement released last night.

She was also charged with publishing or distributing written material, and using words that were threatening, abusive or insulting intending thereby to stir up racial hatred or having regard to all the circumstances was reckless as to whether racial hatred would be stirred up, in breach of the Public Order Act 1986.

Aladwan, who is British Palestinian, was remanded in custody and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday March 27, Scotland Yard said.
