The long coat is padded for warmth, and has a hood and pockets

This weekend will see plummeting temperatures, as well as ice and snow in some regions across the UK. Shoppers in need of a new winter coat to shield themselves from the cold winter weather can find a highly rated one at Next.

Next’s Shower-Resistant Hooded Longline Coat (£75) is one of its most reviewed outerwear pieces, and is designed with all the elements a winter coat needs. It’s waterproof, long enough to keep shoppers dry during heavy rainfall, and has a hood.

Ideal for everyday wear, it features padding for insulation and a concealed zip and popper fastening. Available in sizes 6-26, it is also offered in two lengths, regular and petite.

The model pairs it with a burgundy tracksuit and trainers; however, it can also be worn with jeans or trousers, as some shoppers detail in their reviews. The Shower-Resistant Hooded Longline Coat is also available in several other colours, including black, cream, burgundy, khaki and navy – these hues are £10 cheaper at £65.

Elsewhere, outdoor brand Mountain Warehouse has launched an online sale, offering significant reductions on women’s winter coats. One of the biggest savings is on a Florence Long Padded Jacket, reduced to £32.99, down from £109.99 – a saving of £77.

The Shower-Resistant Padded Hooded Longline Coat is available in several colours.

For shorter-length winter coat options, M&S has a sale on its Thermowarmth puffer coat, now £64, was £80. Available in blue or peach colours, the hooded piece is made with the retailer’s ‘Stormwear technology’ to keep shoppers dry in light showers.

However, Next’s Shower-Resistant Hooded Longline Coat is popular with shoppers and has more than 145 reviews. One person simply said: “Really warm, stylish and perfect for winter.”

Another pleased user remarked: “I bought this for the cold weather, and I’m so glad I did. It is very warm, great with everything, but I wear it mostly with jeans or smart trousers.”

A third buyer described it as ‘warm and cosy’, adding: “Washes very well in the machine and you can even tumble dry it. Definitely a bonus for me as I bought the cream one. Would highly recommend.”

Not all shoppers were pleased, with one saying the fit was not right for them. They said: “I bought this coat for cold-weather walking, but it was too long and bulky.”

However, another person said they were ‘very happy with this coat.’ They continued: “I bought petite, and the fit is perfect.’ Lovely warm coat, good quality and fit. Good value for money.”

A penultimate customer commented: “I’ve been looking at puffer coats for a couple of years and couldn’t find one I liked, but now I have! I’m really happy with it. It’s cosy and not too heavy or cumbersome. The hood is good for added warmth, and when it rains. I chose the cream colour as I didn’t want black. It’s probably not a very practical colour, but I do like it so – hey ho, if it gets dirty I will try and wash it.”

A final shopper said: “Very happy with this coat! It’s warm and cosy, the hood fits perfectly, and the length is great. I love the oversized collar and get many compliments when wearing it.”
