Rare coins are all the rage at the moment, but one special design is “skyrocketing” in value – and it could land in your pocket anytime soon. It even passed Kew Gardens 50p as the most sought-after

If you’re thinking about rare coins, the first thing that comes to mind is the Kew Gardens 50p, right?

With just 210,000 in circulation, these coins are incredibly hard to find, but if you do strike gold – it can be worth an absolute fortune (if you’re lucky). Now collectors are going wild for a new 50p which has overtaken the Kew Gardens as the most “sought-after”.

Over on TikTok, user @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 205,000 followers, recently discussed the “rarest 50p you can find in your change”. He told how the Atlantic Salmon 50p is now the rarest in active circulation.

He detailed: “With only 200,000 of these, this is an exciting day for coin collecting. It takes the crown from the all-mighty Kew Gardens 50p coin which held the title for the past 15 years.

“Released at the end of 2023, the Atlantic Salmon 50p was part of the nation’s tribute to King Charles III’s Coronation year. The coin has now officially overtaken the Kew Gardens 50p which had a mintage of 210,000 when it was introduced in 2009.”

The user claimed how the Atlantic Salmon 50p is now the most sought-after 50p in circulation. He concluded: “The coin has already started to gain attraction on eBay and other coin groups.

“And the price is skyrocketing, so keep an eye out for the new rarest 50p you can find in your change.” Since he shared the information, it didn’t take eager followers long to rush to the comments section after the clip scooped nearly 700 likes.

One said: “My daughter has two of these,” to which the user replied: “Excellent, keep them safe.” While another added: “Really excited, can’t control myself here.” And a third chimed in: “So exciting, great video.”

If you think you own the Atlantic Salmon 50p coin, it’s worth reaching out to an expert who can have it valued for. Meanwhile over on eBay, we’ve seen the same coin sell for £50, if not more.
