The Princess of Wales is known for wearing her £120 Veja Esplar trainers when off duty, and now New Look has launched its own £33 version of one of the brand’s best-selling styles
Kate Middleton might be known for her chic, glamorous outfits, but the Princess of Wales also knows how to put together an effortless and relaxed look when off duty or attending more casual engagements. For years one staple of her laid-back looks has been her white and gold Veja Esplar Trainers, £120, which she often pairs with jeans and dresses whilst out and about.
Kate even wore the trainers during the official video released on Monday 9 September whilst giving fans an update on her health and revealing that she had now finished treatment for her cancer, which she was diagnosed with earlier this year. This royal endorsement has shot the trainers to fame over recent years after Kate’s many sightings in them, with one of the brand’s most popular styles being the black and white Veja V-10s, which sell for £150.
If you’ve been keen to get your hands on a pair but haven’t been able to splurge on the high price tag, you can now pick up an almost identical pair at New Look, thanks to the White Chunky Sole Trainers, £32.99.

Just like the stylish Veja trainers, New Look’s own version comes in a white colourway with bold black V-shaped detail on the side – although it faces the opposite direction to the Veja pair. The high street version also features a brown gum sole and black panel on the heel, making them a great alternative to the luxury pair.
They have a chunky sole, as well as pale grey fax suede details on the toe, which is also reminiscent of another pair of trending trainers, the Adidas Samba OGs, £95. Considering the trainers look like a hybrid of two of the most popular footwear styles around right now, we’re already predicting these will be a top seller for autumn.
As well as their stylish design, the trainers are part of New Look’s comfort range, which sees the trainers designed with features including cushioned padding, softer linings and flexible soles to make them wearable all day long.
Shoppers have already been praising the pair for their comfort and style, with one reviewer writing: “Great trainers, stylish and very comfortable. Love the detailing.”
Another added: “Nice chunky trainers. Comfy, true to size,” whilst a third wrote: “Funky and comfortable! Love these trainers!”
One did find an issue with the fit, saying: “One of the trainers was really padded at the back but the other one seems to be a lot thinner and because the height of the back is so high they do rub a bit. But the overall look is really nice and the colour combination is what I was looking for, versatile.”
For another high street alternative, Marks and Spencer’s new-in Suede Trainers, £55, are a great alternative to the celeb-loved, Nike Cortez, £79.99, which have been spotted on the likes of Bella Hadid.
