Pepsi’s latest drink offering, Pepsi Electric, has split opinions among shoppers – with some loving the unique taste, and others saying it ‘tastes like washing up liquid’

Calling all fizzy drink lovers – this new flavour of Pepsi is causing a stir.

Almost all of us have had a glass of Pepsi before. The cola flavour is a tried and tested fizzy drink staple, and it’s something many of us would pick as our go-to carbonated beverage. In recent years, however, Pepsi has begun experimenting with different flavours that they can add to their iconic base, giving us combinations such as Pepsi Max Mango, Pepsi Max Lime, and Pepsi Max Cherry.

But one new flavour in particular has got people online talking – Pepsi Electric. In May this year, it was announced that Pepsi would be launching the limited-edition flavour in the UK, and a couple of months later, Brits on social media have a lot to say about it.

In a post shared on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK page on Facebook, one person posted a picture of bottles of Pepsi Electric on sale in their local Morrisons supermarket. And it didn’t take long for over 500 people to comment on the post leaving their opinions on the new drink.

Pepsi Electric is advertised as a “zesty citrus” flavoured cola, with the liquid itself being an eye-catching blue colour. But for some consumers on Facebook, citrus is the last thing they can taste when they drink a bottle.

When one person asked what it was “meant to taste like”, several people responded to say it should take like “citrus”, but one declared it “just tastes like Pepsi Max,” and another hilariously added: “And smells of old saliva!”

Another person commented: “It’s grim, tasted like flowers,” while another disappointed customer shared: “Starts off kind of citrus-like but then becomes more aniseed tasting. It’s a very odd flavour and it’s not nice at all.”

Some others claimed the drink was “rubbish and boring” and simply “tasted like lemonade”, and one person even compared it to “washing up liquid”. However, there were plenty of commenters who liked the new twist on the classic cola, and urged people to try it themselves before believing the disgruntled Brits who weren’t so keen.

One argued: “There’s nothing wrong with it, it tastes completely fine.” Another added: “So very nice,” and a third shared: “It tastes like Mountain Dew and Pepsi together. It’s lovely.”

Posters on Reddit also previously discussed the drink, with many saying it tastes similar to the US product Pepsi Blue. However, the US drink is billed as being “berry” flavoured – so the “zesty citrus” of Pepsi Electric should taste very different.
