Speculation has been mounting about the future of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix – and one executive at the streaming service has finally spoken out about what is expected in the future

A top Netflix executive has spoken out about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s prospects at the streaming service.

It was back in 2020 that the Sussexes signed what is believed to have been a multi-million dollar five-year deal with the platform to create new shows. Their first show was their controversial docuseries, in which they levelled criticism against the likes of King Charles and Prince William.

And despite being a ratings success, other ventures on Netflix, such as a documentary about polo and another about the Invictus Games, have not proved as popular. It has prompted intense speculation about the future of the deal with Meghan’s new cookery show With Love, Meghan being releaed on Netflix in March.

But now Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria has insisted she is ‘excited’ about the plans in the works from the couple. She told the Daily Mail: “We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great. It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito and nature.

“It really has great takeaways. I was like oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.’ There are really easy great takeaways on life. I am really excited about that coming out.”

Another project in the works by Meghan is a movie adaptation of the novel Meet Me At The Lake by author Carley Fortune. The story focuses on a couple who fall for each other once they enter their 30s, and one of the characters is left with trauma following the death of a parent in a car crash.

Ms Bajaria added: “‘It is in development. It is a great book, she had it and we are happy to do it. And we have things in development. Everyone is excited about what is coming. I am really excited for her show.”

The comments come after Harry and Meghan were mocked by a comedian at a Netflix event just last week. Saturday Night Live star and comedian John Mulaney announced his new Netflix show at the Next on Netflix event, where he cracked a joke at Harry and Meghan’s expense.

In front of a room of the streaming platform’s execs, he joked: “This is a really fun experiment. Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan. Like Harry and Meghan, there’s nothing but goodwill on my side. People are rooting for me left and right.”

Last month, it was revealed that Meghan’s new cookery show With Love, Meghan was being postponed due to the devastation caused by the Los Angeles wildfires.

The eight-part series will see the actress share cooking, gardening and hosting tips, will premiere on March 4 instead of January 15. “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California,” Meghan said in a statement to Tudum, the official companion site to Netflix.

A description of the series on Tudum’s website said: “Produced by Meghan, With Love, Meghan blends practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old.

Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection, and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected. She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”
