A customer asked for guidance about changes to Nationwide’s online services
Nationwide Building Society has shared guidance on calls for changes to its digital services. The group also shared an important update affecting services at all its branches.
Under the current rules, members can access many services through online banking and the mobile app, including making payments and transfers, as well as viewing your account balance. Customers can also pop into a Nationwide branch if they want to do their banking in person or get face-to-face support.
One member enquired about changes to the mobile app. More than six million customers are signed up to the app, according to the Nationwide website.
They questioned: “Are there any plans for an update to your app so customers can pay cheques in using their mobile banking app? Such a pain having to go in branch.”
Many bank providers have a service allowing you to deposit cheques through their apps. You can often do this by taking a picture of the cheque and providing some other details about the payment.
Nationwide told the customer: “Whilst this isn’t a feature we currently offer, we’re always looking to improve our products and services.” The building society encouraged the person to submit their suggestion through a feedback form available on the Nationwide website.
Following the member’s query, the mutual was asked whether there are any plans to introduce a service so customers can deposit cheques via the app. The provider replied: “Nationwide does not currently offer the option to cash a cheque via the banking app.
“Customers can pay in a cheque at a Nationwide branch, via a smart ATM or via a drop box ATM.” If you don’t have access to a branch, you can also post your cheque to the provider.
In this instance, you should send the cheque to your nearest Nationwide branch. More information on what to include can be found on the Nationwide website.
Announcement affecting over 690 branches
The group has also provided an update regarding its in-person services. It said: “Nationwide also recently announced that it will continue to keep every one of its 696 Nationwide and Virgin Money branches open until at least 2030.”
This includes all 605 Nationwide Building Society branches. The group says that it is the only provider with a remaining branch in 133 local areas.
Dame Debbie Crosbie, CEO of Nationwide Building Society, said: “Our customers can be confident that they can bank with us whichever way they choose. Branches are important to our customers, to communities, and to the health of our high streets.
“That’s why Nationwide will continue to keep branches open in addition to our investment in online and telephone channels.”
