Nationwide has sent text messages to customers
Nationwide has issued a warning to members throughout the UK, with people told they could face charges in some circumstances.
The world’s largest building society, Nationwide, serves millions of customers up and down the country. Consequently, the banking giant routinely keeps its members updated, and text messages have been dispatched this week. The alert encourages its customers to complete a straightforward task that could enhance their banking experience and prevent any unwanted extra fees. Messages read: “If you have push notifications on your device turned on, you’ll get balance, overdraft and payment alerts.
“You can view them by tapping the bell icon in our app. If you’ve turned push notifications off in your device settings, you may miss important alerts, which may lead to charges.” The alert comes as many Nationwide members await news on whether the building society will distribute £100 bonuses later this year.
In 2023, 2024, and 2025, Nationwide paid out £100 ‘Fairer Share’ payments to customers who satisfied specific criteria, and the building society has indicated it plans to do so again this year.
However, the financial institution said this “will depend on how we perform financially”. In previous years, members needed to fulfil certain criteria by March 31.
Fairer Share payments have previously been announced in May, with payments subsequently made in June.
