There is further guidance on the Nationwide website about the issue

Nationwide Building Society has provided an update regarding new account information being dispatched to members. The statement comes after Martin Lewis recently shared some advice specifically for Nationwide customers.

A customer reached out to Nationwide on social media with a pressing question about their account. They asked the mutual: “How long before my debit card ends should I receive my new card? Mine ends this month and I’m sure previously I’ve had my new card before the start of the month the current one expires.” The expiry date of your debit card can be found on the front of the card.

In response, Nationwide said: “We send out the new card approximately two weeks before the end of the month to ensure it arrives on time.” Further guidance about when new debit cards are issued can be found on the group’s website.

State Pensioners to face major tax change

The information page clarifies: “We’ll send you a new card about 3 weeks before your current card expires. You can use this new card as soon as you’ve received it. We suggest destroying your old card.”

There is no requirement to activate your card, as it can be used immediately for online payments. However, to use your card for contactless payments, you will first need to make a payment using your PIN number.

Another important timeline to remember is that if your debit card hasn’t been used in the past six months, you will need to request a new one by contacting Nationwide. For general enquiries about current accounts, you can call 03457 302011.

This line is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm and on Sundays from 9am to 5pm.

If you’re opening a new account, your debit card will be sent to you in the post. Your PIN will also be posted to you separately.

Nationwide also recently committed to doubling the number of people who can access its interest-free green mortgages.

Its 0% Green Additional Borrowing products launched in June 2023 with the aim of supporting 5,000 households, which will now be expanded to reach 10,000 households.

Through the scheme, you can borrow between £5,000 and £20,000 up to a maximum of 90 per cent loan-to-value (LTV), across a two or five-year term. You can apply for the additional borrowing as soon as your first mortgage payment has gone out.

More information about the scheme is available on the Nationwide website.
