Nationwide appears to be having issues this morning, with the building society confirming that some incoming payments are delayed. Customers have complained that their payments are showing as pending in the Nationwide banking mobile app.

The high street lender has issued an update on its website, confirming the issue: “Some incoming payments are delayed at the moment. Everything else is working normally.”

If you are waiting for a payment, Nationwide is advising customers that the payment in a queue “and will arrive ASAP”. You don’t need to resend it. Direct Debits and standing orders are working normally, according to the Nationwide website.

Nationwide customers have taken to social media this morning to vent their frustration. One person said: “I have sent some money to my nationwide account and it hasnt [sic] arrived, do you have any issues with payments at the moment?”

Another asked: “Why am I not receiving any payments today?” A third said: “Why is it so difficult to pay my credit card bill. The app is useless.” A fourth commented: “Cannot transfer any money to my Monzo account? its been processing now for an hour? What’s going on?”

Nationwide customers should still be able to use their cards online and in stores, and withdraw cash at cash machines. The issues appear to have started around 5.30am this morning, according to outage tracker DownDetector.

A Nationwide spokesperson said: “There is currently a delay affecting incoming faster payments reaching Nationwide current accounts.

“We are working hard to resolve the issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused. There is no need for payments to be resent as these will be processed as soon as possible.”

Are you entitled to compensation?

If your bank services have gone down, you aren’t automatically entitled to any compensation – it instead depends on how badly the outage has affected you.

For example, if it made you miss a bill or some sort of payment. It also depends on how long the service disruption lasts for and how quickly the bank worked to resolve it.

Nationwide has a dedicated page online to help you make a complaint. If you’re considering making a complaint, you should gather evidence about how the service issues affected you and for how long.
