People are being warned that further strong earthquakes greater than a magnitude of three could still occur due to seismic activity.
Nello Musumeci, Minister of Civil Protection and Maritime Policies said: “The seismic swarm, as volcanologists tell us, is still ongoing. Therefore, further events with a magnitude greater than 3 could occur.
“Under these conditions, everyone needs to be cautious and self-controlled.
“At present, eight buildings and five businesses have been declared uninhabitable, with 130 families evacuated, equivalent to approximately 290 people; many of them have been sheltered in the areas set up by the municipalities of Naples and Pozzuoli. Five people have been hospitalized for trauma and fractures.”
