This Morning’s beauty expert Nadine Baggott has shared her brilliant hack that stops suncream from making your eyes sting when you sweat – and it only requires two products
As the sun finally starts to make a regular appearance, it’s never been more necessary to make sure you’re applying SPF every day. But as the temperatures rise, it’s only natural that we sweat more, which can lead to your SPF migrating into your eyes and causing them to sting, especially if they’re already sensitive.
Luckily, This Morning’s beauty expert Nadine Baggott is here to save the day, as she’s shared a brilliant hack with fans that stops SPF from running, without compromising on sun protection. Whilst sharing a round up on Instagram of her favourite facial suncreams, Nadine was asked: “I have really sensitive eyes and find my eyes water with any face spf… is there any that you would recommend for sensitive skin from the above?” And of course Nadine had the answer, replying: “ Avene sensitive ultra fluid and set it around your eyes with translucent powder.”

The Avène Ultra Fluid Invisible SPF50 (£21) is specially designed for sensitive skin, and has a fluid-like texture that protects against UVB, UVA and HEV blue light. It has an invisible finish so all skin tones can wear it without being left with a white cast, and it actually helps to smooth and balance the appearance of uneven tone and texture as you wear it, just like your favourite skincare.
Although it is water-resistant, as with any SPF if you’re sweating heavily it can start to slip on your skin over time, which can lead to it making eyes sting if the Avène Ultra Fluid Invisible SPF50 migrates down into them. However, Nadine’s hack is so simple that anyone can use it, and it’ll instantly solve the problem without compromising on the SPF’s effectiveness.
Once you’ve applied your SPF and let it settle into your skin, simply take a setting powder and press or dust it gently into the areas around your eyes. This can be underneath them, on the lids and above your brows, and it helps set your SPF just like you would with your foundation and other makeup products.
You can use a loose powder, like Laura Mercier’s celeb-loved Translucent Loose Setting Powder (£38.50) which is great for giving it a light dusting without having to pack the product on. It gives up to 24 hours of shine control, which means it’ll be long-lasting at locking in the SPF.
If you prefer a pressed powder formula, KIKO Milano’s Universal Veil Translucent Finishing Powder is just £13, with a weightless formula that mattifies and blurs skin once applied. Both of these are translucent, which is great for keeping them invisible so you can wear them even on non-makeup days.
However, if you want something that helps colour correct, covers dark circles or evens skin tone whilst still looking invisible, Fenty’s Set It Down Superfine Blurring Setting Powder is £22.40 down from £28, and comes in eight shades. It has a lightweight feel and defends makeup (and SPF) against sweat and humidity whilst also mattifying skin and diffusing the appearance of pores.
