The Remington Shine Therapy Advanced Ceramic Hair Straighteners S8500 are a best-seller for a reason – and I’ve been won over by the budget bargain too

I’ve tried so many different pairs of straighteners over the years, but whenever anyone asks me which are the best, they’re always surprised by my answer. Despite having used a number of high-end and highly-regarded brands like Dyson, Cloud Nine and ghd, I always recommend a pair you can pick up for under £30 on Amazon.

Around 12 months ago, I tried out a pair of Remington Shine Therapy Advanced Ceramic Hair Straighteners S8500 after my decade-old ghds finally gave up the ghost. And my only regret is not replacing them with the budget pair sooner.

Amazon shoppers had said they’ve ‘abandoned’ their expensive flat irons in favour of these affordable Remington straighteners, and so, I put my faith in some 22.000 five star Amazon reviews and decided to give them a chance.

I’m a fashion writer and these 8 Amazon pieces are worth saving ahead of Prime Day

The straighteners boast a sleek black and white design, teal coloured plates and digital temperature display. They take around 20 seconds to heat up, with temperature control buttons that allow you to select the right setting for your hair, ranging from 150 to 230 degrees.

The Advanced Ceramic coated plates are infused with Moroccan Argan Oil and Vitamin E, while the floating plates make them spongy and allow for even pressure on the hair, so not is my hair styled to perfection, it’s always left shiny and healthy looking too.

If you want more intense shine, to tackle frizz or to have healthier looking hair in an instant then look no further. This clever range of tools incorporate the next generation of Advanced Ceramic plates, infused with special Micro Conditioners, so not only will your hair be styled to perfection, it will be shiny and healthy looking too.

The device makes light work of giving me pin-straight locks without leaving my bleached hair feeling dry as has previously been the case when styling my hair with heat. And I’m not the only one who thinks highly of the cut-price styling tool.

Plenty of other shoppers have left glowing reviews for the straighteners, which are currently in the haircare best-sellers list, and number one best-seller for hair straighteners on Amazon. One said: “Honestly just as good as a previous pair of cloud nines I had. Well worth the money I love them.”

Another added: “My trusty GHDs broke but I wasn’t in a position to buy another pair so after looking at amazon reviews I opted for these. They probably take a fraction longer to warm up than my GHDs and there is no audible beep to let you know it’s got to temperature but a quick glance at the screen you know when it has. Once warmed up they are just as easy to use and in no time my hair was perfectly straight. In fact my hair stays straight for days afterwards no touch up required.”

I have to agree that it’s a shame there’s no sound to signal that the device is up to temperature, but you can check the digital screen to find out when they’re ready – which is no time at all. It’s also handy to know that they have a 60 minute shut-off for safety.

Some shoppers reported some snagging on the plates, but I didn’t find this to be the case with my hair. The straighteners glided through like silk with no dragging or catching, which helps avoid those pesky heat marks in the hair, too. But for the price I really can’t fault them. It takes me less than 10 minutes to straighten all my hair and styling no longer feels like a chore.

Usually £79.99, the Remington straighteners are almost always under £30, currently down to £28.99. But with Amazon Prime Day on the horizon, it could provide shoppers with the opportunity to get them even cheaper. According to Amazon price history checker CamelCamelCamel, they were down to £23.74 last Prime Day in July 2023, but even cheaper for Black Friday 2023, where they were £17.99.

You can shop the £29 Remington straighteners here on Amazon, but you can also get them from Boots and Debenhams at varying prices.
