A man has lost his life, police confirmed, after he was rushed to hospital in a critical condition at the weekend following an incident outside a pub earlier this month

Police have confirmed a murder probe has been launched after a man has died in hospital following alleged attack outside a pub.

The a 37-year-old man from Tredegar wound up in hospital in a critical condition following an alleged assault outside a Wetherspoon pub in south Wales.

Gwent Police have since confirmed on Tuesday that the man has since died in hospital, with a murder investigation to be launched in the wake of the alleged incident at The Picture House in Ebbw Vale at the weekend. The incident in understood to have taken place outside The Picture House in Bethcar Street between 11.30pm on Friday, February 20, and 12.15am on Saturday, February 21.

A 30-year-old Cardiff man, who had been previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the incident, has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder, a statement from the force said. He remains in police custody where he is being questioned.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police added that its investigation into what happened is “continuing at pace”.
