A mum has shared how she managed to get a Christmas food shop worth £455 for just £14, and while some were impressed, others were less positive. One person said: “This has got to be the best savings of 2025.”
One mum managed to bag a Christmas food shop worth £455 for just £14 – but not everyone was impressed. The woman, Jayne, posted on social media platform Threads, displaying a self-service checkout at her local Tesco branch after scanning her entire Christmas haul, with the bill totalling £354.45. However, the follow-up snap revealed the same till showing she only had £14.97 left to cough up.
A third photo displayed Jayne’s trolley absolutely crammed with carrier bags full of groceries. Even more remarkably, the initial image revealed that £100.60 in savings had already been knocked off, indicating the original value before any reductions stood at £455.05, bringing her total savings to an eye-watering £440.08, reports the Express.
Breaking down how she achieved such enormous savings, Jayne explained: “The girls and I did the Christmas food shop tonight in Tesco’s, it was gone 9.30pm and the tills were still open. All fresh veg being put out, got everything we needed! Didn’t even queue, it was great.
“When I bought my new car from Thurlow Nunn this year I got £500 in Tesco Clubcard vouchers, £14.97 paid and still got £200 left, was well chuffed!!”
The Tesco Clubcard programme rewards customers with one point for every pound they spend in-store, with each point valued at 1p. These can be transformed into vouchers for in-store purchases, or redeemed straight at the checkout.
Tesco also offers Clubcard holders reduced prices on a number of goods, while customers can also earn additional points through partner companies – as Jayne apparently did with car dealership Thurlow Nunn.
Social media users were astounded by the post. One said: “Good grief, and here I was chuffed with £40 vouchers.” Another wrote: “This has got to be the best savings of 2025.”
But others were stunned her shopping bill had been that steep in the first place. One said: “It’s a shocking scene when one trolley full of shopping is £350+ (assuming no electronics are in there).”
Replying, another said: “I’ve bought an absolute feast for five people still didn’t even spend more than £160 lol.”
Someone else wrote: “Goodness knows what she bought but I’m feeding 10 and absolutely not spent £350.”
But, replying to this, another person said: “That’s mental. We spent £500 across M&S and Tesco and that doesn’t even include the turkey.”
And someone else wrote: “We just moved house and we’ve probably spent about £350 but we had NOTHING in to start with, not even basics. And that’s just factoring for three full-time plus people dropping in between Christmas Eve and the 26th.
“It’s easily done, especially if you have people with any kind of allergies or eating issues (we need to double-buy most ready-made items to accommodate a seed oil allergy in the house.”
Clubcard points can also be transformed into vouchers for partner companies, effectively doubling their value. These partner schemes span a wide range of services, from eateries and accommodation to holiday firms and family outings.
