Dot Marr, a mum from Edinburgh, was so horrified by her “old and tired” buss photograph she decided to take steps in a desperate attempt to change her appearance

A mum believes she looks one decade younger after having a saggy eye bag op.

Dot Marr, 60, has lauded the surgery as “the best thing I’ve ever done,” having taken the plunge following months of hesitation. She was eventually swayed to do so when she was shocked by her new bus pass photograph in July, which she described as “old and tired”.

After spending nearly £8,000 on the operation, Dot now reckons she looks around 10 years younger and “feels like a different person”. The two-hour procedure sees excess skin, fat, or muscle removed from the upper or lower eyelids to correct drooping or sagging, something with which Dot had been unhappy for some time.

The mother of one, who lives in Edinburgh, said: “Eye bags are genetic, I was a baby and had eye bags. They bothered me most of my adult life. As I got older, they got worse.”

Dot had a stressful divorce earlier this year and the bus pass picture was the last straw, so she decided to have the op last month as a “present to herself”. The office manager had her hooded lids and eye bags removed, and has since had a new glam bus photo taken.

“I recently just split up from my husband as well. He stressed me out, I look like I’ve aged since being with him. I was out with my daughter three months ago and I asked her to take my picture for my bus pass, I looked at it and hardly recognised myself,” Dot continued.

“I thought ‘look how old I’ve got and how prominent my eye bags have gotten’. It was a shock, I looked old and tired. I’d been looking at blepharoplasties for a long time but was always a bit scared. I just thought ‘I want it now’ and booked the earliest appointment I could get.”

The mum had the surgery at the Cosmedicare branch in Polwarth, Edinburgh, a private hospital, just days before she turned 60. Now, she feels as though she looks closer to 50.

The office boss continued: “This was like a 60th birthday present to myself and a celebration of coming out of that relationship. The eye bags were getting really big and I thought if I wait any longer it’s actually going to affect my eyesight.

“I had no eyelids anymore because the hoods were coming over so much, I can’t believe the difference. I’m not vain but I keep looking at myself thinking it looks amazing. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

“After I had my surgery and make-up done, I took new pictures for my bus pass and thought ‘this is a much better photo’. I look like I did 10 years ago when I was 50, I feel like a different person.”

Will Anderson, consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon at cosmedicare, said: “This was a highly skilled and complex procedure involving upper and lower blepharoplasty with fat transfer. The results in Dot’s case are really pleasing, the outcome is natural and has taken years off her appearance.”
