The mum shared how she did it after going to Marks and Spencer
A mum who loves to find bargains has shared how she managed to get a near £30 shop down to less than £3. Sharing her shopping hack on Instagram, the mum called Jo, aka ThisMumCooks, said she couldn’t wait to get home and use it all – and none of it was a pointless purchase.
In her caption, she said she bought a bunch of items for just “£2.96 instead of £29.55 at Marks and Spencer.” Explaining her video, she said: “As soon as I arrived, I realised that the reductions had been out for some time.
“I guess since yesterday” it had been out, she noticed, “and many of the great offers had sold out. But I still managed to bag myself some bargains. None of this will go to waste and I cannot wait to try the Ancho Chillies.”
In the video itself, she said that there were many end of season red label sticker options which were for sale, but sadly, they had all sold out. “These sales had reduced items down by 90 per cent. And things that were £2.50 originally were down to 25p.”
Many of the items were long-life products, such as rice, pulses, flour, and various baking options, which were also slashed in price. A honey which was also priced at £6 was down to just 60p.
She then joked: “But I definitely wasn’t going to pick up the Chicken Fajita mix reduced down from 50p to £1 – something had definitely gone awry there.”
So what did she pick up? The mum seemed to get her hands on a few bags of rice, quinoa, a few jars of chutney and preserve, as well as a couple of bottles of almond extract and a bag of Ancho Chillies.
In fact, the extract was just 40p, down from a whopping £4. And for the Colin the Caterpillar lovers out there, themed sprinkles were just 20p, down from £2.
Supermarket bargains
If you are looking to find bargains elsewhere, we previously reported that Richard Price, a Grocery Expert at BritSuperstore, says most major supermarkets, including Morrisons, Aldi, and Asda, follow a two-stage discount strategy for perishable goods.
For example, Richard said the best time to check for yellow sticker items in Morrisons is in the “early evening” from around 5pm. According to the grocery expert, this is the time when items can be marked up to 90% off, although he noted that some items can be marked down in the morning, too.
And when it comes to Asda, Richard says shoppers wanting to bag some yellow sticker bargains are best to visit twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. Richard’s top tip is to be early, as stores that open at 6am or 7am often have the “best” fresh produce yellow sticker deals.
