Harley Patterson, 17, tragically died in a single vehicle collision on the A19 in County Durham on Saturday – and his family have now shared a heartfelt tribute

A “much-loved” teenager has tragically died in a crash on the A19, police have confirmed.

Harley Patterson, 17, passed away in the collision on Saturday. Emergency services were called to a report of a single vehicle crash at 11.15pm on the southbound carriageway between the A179 and the Elwick turn off in County Durham at around 11.15pm on December 13.

Harley, the driver of a silver Ford C-Max, sadly died at the scene. Police said in a press release on Sunday that the teen had “suffered significant head injuries.” After the collision, the road was closed for around 12 hours, and it reopened shortly after 11am on Sunday.

An investigation was carried out at the scene, assisted by National Highways contractors and assisted with other diversions and closures.

Today, Harley’s family shared a picture of their boy, who is from the County Durham area, Chronicle Live reported. In a heartfelt tribute, his loved ones said: “Harley was a much-loved son, brother and grandson and he will be sadly missed.”

Cleveland Police said in a statement: “Police can now name a 17-year-old boy who died in a collision on the A19 as Harley Patterson from the County Durham area. The incident happened around 11:15pm on Saturday 13th December.”

The force added: “Our thoughts remain with Harley’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.” Officers asked anyone with information to get in touch with Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 238211.
