If you’re looking for an easy, effective and affordable way to keep your home cool in the summer, thermal curtains are the perfect solution – and these M&S ones are now 30% off
The sun might have temporarily disappeared but the UK is still dealing with high temperatures and humidity, which can leave our homes uncomfortably hot and stuffy. With British homes designed to keep heat in, it can be a nightmare trying to keep them cool in summer without resorting to installing expensive air conditioning units or constantly running fans which hike up your electricity bills.
However one quick and simple solution that every home can do is install thermal curtains . You might think they’re only good for trapping heat in in the winter, but a pair of thermal curtains can also keep heat out when closed against direct sunlight to stop your home from heating up.

Marks & Spencer shoppers can currently snap up a pair of Brushed Pencil Pleat Blackout Thermal Curtains on sale that are perfect for keeping your home cool. Now priced between £28 and £70 depending on which size and length you buy, and although you can also opt for eyelet style curtains, it’s the pencil pleat ones which are currently on offer.
They come in 12 different colours, and are proving popular with M&S customers – they’re currently the number two best selling buy in the entire homeware section online. They have a brushed polyester face for extra body and to improve drape, whilst the back is covered with temperature-smart technology that regulates your room’s temperature.
If you draw them in the evening on a cold day, they’ll help trap the heat into your room for added warmth in winter. But in summer, the Brushed Pencil Pleat Blackout Thermal Curtains will prevent the sun’s rays from entering your room, stopping it from overheating.
On top of their temperature regulating, they’re also blackout which is great for helping you sleep through the night without being woken up by an early sunrise. You can also pick up a similar pair at Dunelm, where the Wynter Thermal Eyelet Curtains are also on sale, priced between £17.50 and £150 depending on the size and colourway you choose. Meanwhile at Dusk, the Herringbone Thermal Blackout Pencil Pleat Curtains are now £80 and are perfect for bringing some luxe-looking texture to your room.
However the M&S ones are still some of the most affordable around after their price cut. One reviewer wrote: “Bought for bedroom. Look more expensive than their actual price. Has reduced morning light into the bedroom.”
Another added: “Great. Very effective against the current heatwave.” Whilst a third said: “Great curtains. Blackout effective but stylish and falls well. Very happy.”
One person did warn, however: “Nice colour but I have been unable to get rid of the creases. The label says only use a cool iron setting and don’t use steam.”
Which was an issue others found, with another shopper writing: “Good value for money and well made but were poorly folded which caused excessive creasing.”
