The standout knit is in one of this season’s trending silhouettes, and is perfect for taking shoppers from winter to spring

It may have taken more than a decade, but peplum styles are making a triumphant comeback, leaving behind the stark corporate look that peaked in the early 2010s, and embracing instead more laid-back and incredibly ‘flattering’ designs. The silhouette has undergone a sophisticated makeover and is poised to be everywhere in 2026, with customers raving about an M&S cardigan that’s proving so irresistible, they’re snapping up every shade available.

Marks and Spencer’s Soft Touch Crew Neck Peplum Fitted Cardigan proved such a hit that it completely sold out. But fashion fans will be delighted to hear it’s now back in stock – and in both colour options.

Available for £36 and ranging from extra-small to extra-large, this knit is ideal for the current weather. Perfect for layering on cooler days, it will seamlessly carry fashion fans into the slightly milder spring months ahead.

Offered in grey marl and cappuccino, the cardigan features a soft-touch fabric crafted with comfort as the priority. It boasts a flattering slim fit, complete with a classic crew neckline and discreet covered buttons running down the front, making it versatile to wear either fastened or left open.

However, it’s the peplum hem that truly distinguishes this from other knitwear currently available on the high street. It nods to the Y2K comeback with a somewhat gentler silhouette than those remembered from the noughties, giving it a far more contemporary and fashionable edge, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Soft Touch Crew Neck Peplum Fitted Cardigan

Combining a stylish design with soft-touch material, this cardigan is a chic and comfy addition to your wardrobe. It’s designed in a flattering slim fit, with a classic crew neckline and neat covered buttons down the front. A peplum hem adds a subtle touch of drama to this smart piece.

The feature has been loved by fans for its subtle, flared finish that nips in at the waist before flaring out over the hips. This allows for pretty versatile styling, effortlessly teaming with jeans for a casual look or dressed up with a skirt or layered over a dress.

For a similar look, River Island has recently discounted this Grey Cosy Long Sleeve Peplum Cardigan in their sale. Originally £35, it’s now down to £26, but sizes are going fast. It’s made from 18% cotton and features long sleeves, button fastening and a peplum silhouette.

Meanwhile, H&M’s Rib-knit peplum cardigan costs £23.80 and comes in three colours, including khaki, black and grey. It comes in seven sizes, which is more inclusive than M&S’s, with shoppers saying it ‘looks good and feels good’.

Back at Marks and Spencer, several reviewers described the knit as ‘a good weight’ and ‘nice and warm’. One said: “Very flattering, warm and soft. Looks great on. I liked it so much that I bought both colours.”

Another added: “I had this on my wish list for a whilst as it was out of stock and am absolutely thrilled to finally receive it. This is a good weight, nice and warm, and looks so much better than I expected. As I had waited so long for it to become available, I had ordered a similar style from another brand, but the M&S one is far superior.

“Nice warm jumper. Flattering style,” wrote a third, but they did notice it can be quick to bobble. They added: “Have had to use a defuzzer after a couple of short wears. Looks like new again.”

A fourth remarked: “This is a lovely, soft, good weight cardigan which I found very flattering in a rich colour. I would definitely buy more in other colours.”

One observed that the ‘sleeves are a bit too long’, but still described it as a ‘great cardigan’. They added: “Lovely soft material, fitted, with a peplum, making it useful for both casual wear with jeans, and more formal wear with a skirt or over a dress.”

Another five-star review read: “This cardigan fits perfectly, sitting on the hip and flaring flatteringly. The fabric is quite heavy and looks much more expensive than it is. I’m very pleased with my purchase and bought one in each colour. I’ve had lots of compliments, too.”
