Marks & Spencer has pumped more than £30million into cutting the price of dozens of food products.

The price cut include M&S’s Remarksable Value, a core range of weekly staples which the retailer says are benchmarked to rivals’ prices, as well a Dropped & Locked, a wider selection of products.
In a dig at competitors, M&S claimed that, unlike other value ranges, it was not about selling “‘entry tier’ food with reduced quality to make it cheaper”.
The move comes amid heightened price competition between grocers as the cost of living squeeze crisis forces many households to look for savings wherever they can. Food price inflation – and the soaring cost of the weekly shop – is one the bills many families say they notice the most.
M&S’s food sales rose 7% to £9.7billion in the year to end of March last year, although profits from this side of the business fell 9.6% to £444million. The retailer said it increased customer numbers and grew its market share to 4.1%.
Its long-term aim is to double food sales, boosted by investment in new stores, with a plan for 380 food stores by 2027/28. Twelve new food branches opened last year, including three conversions of former Homebase stores.
