Motorists have to make all sorts of car checks during the colder months of the year, and you may have an extra job to add to your list during November. You might want to grab some shaving cream

As the chilly weather sets in, motorists may find themselves having to complete all sorts of jobs, and one thing they need to do is pay attention to their windscreens. The cooler conditions can cause car windows to mist up as warm, moist air inside the vehicle condenses on the cold glass.

This is a common issue for drivers, but there’s a simple solution you can try this November as temperatures continue to plummet. In fact, an item from your bathroom cabinet could be just the ticket.

A clever hack has been shared by Cam Casey, suggesting that shaving cream can be applied to windscreens to prevent condensation. It might seem unusual, but it’s one of many tricks you can use to keep your car windows clear.

In a reposted video clip, the method was shared, and he explained: “Just take the shaving cream and put it on the rag. Then you take the rag and put it on your windshield.

“[You just] want to keep rubbing it in until it disappears. There you go, your windows will not fog up anymore. This can also be used on the inside of your car.”

Interestingly, applying shaving cream to a car windscreen can act as a temporary measure to prevent fogging or freezing. However, there are a few things to bear in mind about this trick.

It can be a bit messy, and it’s not a long-term solution. You also need to be careful about how much shaving cream you apply.

To do it right, motorists should smear a thin layer of shaving foam on the glass and then wipe it off completely. You can then polish to a clean finish with a separate cloth to avoid smears.

It’s also crucial to ensure the area is spotless before you apply the product. It works because shaving foam leaves a thin, invisible film on the glass that changes surface tension and helps prevent condensation from forming.

The film is often a byproduct of the ingredients in the foam, such as soap, alcohol and glycerin. You might not have realised, but the product is useful in a number of ways.

However, there are some considerations you need to make when using this method. To start with, it’s a temporary solution for a temporary problem.

Motorists need to be aware it’s not a total fix and may need to be reapplied. In addition to this, it can also take a lot of time to do.

Even though it can clean the glass, it’s a messy job and is more time consuming than using dedicated anti-fog products or standard glass cleaners.

You also need to ensure you wipe it off thoroughly to prevent a residue or streaky film from remaining. If not done correctly, it can leave marks, which can obstruct your view, and this should be avoided as it’s dangerous.

However, if you haven’t got an anti-fog product to hand, it’s always handy to know the technique can work as well. You just have to follow some vital rules when completing the task.

Typically, experts recommend using specific products to accomplish the job, so it’s prudent to stock up on these during the chillier months as well. There are numerous methods to decrease fog in your vehicle.
