Jordan Gray, 26, was shot dead at his home in Motherwell after recently becoming a dad – police believe it was a ‘targeted’ incident and have launched a murder probe

A murder investigation is underway after a man who recently became a dad was shot and killed in his home this week

Jordan Gray, 26, was discovered by loved ones at his flat on Shields Court in Muirhouse, Motherwell on Monday afternoon. Police believe it was a “targeted attack” which occurred between Sunday night and the early hours of Monday morning. His death is being treated as murder following a post-mortem examination.

Police Scotland confirmed he died after being shot by a firearm. Jordan’s father, John Lindsay, said: “Jordan was a loving and doting father and son. Please if anyone has any information, however large or small, contact police.”

Jordan’s mother, Lynn Gray, added: “We as a family are devastated at the loss of Jordan. We would appreciate some privacy and time to grieve. If anyone has any information please come forward.”

His cousin Samuel Durnion, 27, told how he found Jordan lying on the couch with a cover over his body. He also issued a plea for his killer to be brought to justice, Daily Record reports.

Samuel said: “My mum went round to visit him in the afternoon but the door looked like it had been booted in. She called me down and I went in and found him lying on the couch.

“I thought he was asleep but his eyes were open. I started screaming his name to wake up but when I touched his face I realised he was cold.

“When I pulled back the cover, it looked like he had been shot by a shotgun. There was blood everywhere. My mum started screaming and being sick. I was just holding him, I couldn’t leave him there. He is my best pal.

“My mum had to call Jordan’s mum Lynne to break the news. Lynne ran up to the house shouting to get in and see him. The police had to hold her back. His family is broken.”

The horrifying incident was captured on CCTV by a neighbour’s Ring doorbell camera, which has since been handed to police. Cops continue to make an appeal for a hooded man seen in the area around 10.35pm on Sunday.

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry, Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with Jordan’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time. We are offering them support as our investigation progresses.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and we have a dedicated team of specialist officers working through all lines of enquiry… It may be that details of who is responsible for Jordan’s death are known in the local area, and I appeal directly to anyone who knows or has heard something, to report it to us.

“We continue to ask for information on a person seen in the Shields Court area around 10.35pm on Sunday night. They were wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers. Anyone with information on this person is urged to contact the investigation team.”

An online portal has been set up to encourage members of the public to submit information directly to officers. Alternatively, you can contact 101 quoting reference 2147 of Monday, 15 December, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Local Area Commander, Chief Inspector Steven Conn, added: “Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare. With the assistance of the Major Investigation Team, we’re doing all we can to get answers for Jordan’s family.

“We have, and will continue to have, an increased police presence in the area for public reassurance. If you have concerns, please speak to our officers.”
