Mother’s Day is a great way to show our appreciation for our mothers and mother figures in our lives. But while the classic flowers and chocolates are always nice to receive, a bit of lateral thinking can mean you’ll find a Mother’s Day gift that fits her personality and is treasured for a long time.
It’s also a great day for getting out and about to spend time with your mum or the mother figures in your life, so if you want something other than a physical gift, consider activities for that weekend, too.
The classics: flowers
Let’s get started with the best of the classics. A beautiful bouquet from Interflora will go down a treat, while the stunning options of Beards and Daises bouquets and plants will certainly make mum feel special. Flowers are perfect if you can’t see your mum in person on 30th March, but make sure you order soon to book the delivery slot on time!
Or if you want to give a gift to green fingered mums, consider giving a Seedball (or three) as a present. These wildflower seedballs are perfect for adding some surprising colour to all kinds of places, and they’re so easy to use. They help improve biodiversity with native wildflowers, attracting bees and butterflies to the area. Choose from tins, tubes, or bulk-size bags of seedballs, and you can even make your own custom kit.

The classics: food
For a classic chocolate, you can’t go wrong with Lily O’Brien’s chocolates, especially their dessert collection (plus if you order online and sign up to the newsletter, you get 20% off your first order). There’s something for every taste – and you might be able to sneak one too, if you ask your mum nicely! Or you could try classic Thorntons chocolates, perhaps a customised truffles box to make your mother figure feel particularly special.
If you want to go all-out with Swiss delights, look at Läderach chocolates for an artisan treat or get the Lindor Chocolate Bouquet from the Sweet Hamper Company.
For those who can’t have or don’t like chocolate, biscuits are always a welcome alternative. Opt for the classic Walkers Shortbread gift bag – and why not pair it with a Bird and Blend Tea Time Wellness Gift Box. A selection of flavoured and matcha teas, a mindfulness notebook, and serving accessories like a measuring spoon and muslin tea bags to make your own make it a wonderful gift that gives them a mindful moment every day.
For a more savoury treat, consider some Tracklements chutneys, mustards, and condiments. With many vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options, and gift bundles available, it’s the perfect gift for a foodie who doesn’t have a sweet tooth.
Clothes and accessories
Treat your mum to cosy yet practical slippers that will last for years with some shearling suede FitFlop slippers – the ergonomic engineering helps align the body for natural movement, while the natural arch support makes them comfortable to wear all day long. You know what goes really well with slippers? A cosy set of pyjamas, like the classic bamboo fabric sets from Peter Alexander.
For more active mother figures who want to get out and about, consider investing in some decent socks like the Ernator Energy Socks or 1000 Mile Fusion Repreve Walk Socks for blister-free comfort. Add to that a Roxy Sports Bra and chafe-free Runderwear, comfortable layers like a Sherpa Rolpa Fleece, and leggings from a specialist store like Castore and you’ve got an active mum’s dream walking outfit! The best shoes for active mums would be a pair of Crocs, too: comfortable, light, and wear them all day with ease. Or for a stylish option that leans into the current leopard print trend, why not opt for Wendy Comf Luxe shoes from Hey Dude?
For smaller treats, perhaps if you need to post to your mum if you can’t get to see her on Mother’s Day itself, consider some classic jewellery. Vianne Jewellery is an independently owned Manchester-based shop with artisan-made jewellery that will suit most styles. If you want something bolder or more costume jewellery style, look at Oliver Bonas, Topple and Burn (NSFW: swearing) or Tatty Devine.
New mother treats
This year is going to be the first of many Mother’s Day for those who have recently had a baby or are due soon – so make sure you treat them to something wonderful.
Time is so precious for new mums, so consider giving them a few hours to themselves with a home spa experience, with a kit like Little Butterfly London’s pamper kit. Give them peace of mind that their little one feels snuggled up while they have their break with the soft fabric Kyte Baby Sleep Bag, too.
Reduce your new mum’s stress and make feeding time easy with the Baby Björn Feeding Set, ideal for helping wean onto solids or explore new foods. Finally, what could be more adorable than getting mum and baby matching socks? Affordable and fun, try the Blade & Rose Highland Cow socks which go from newborn to adult sizes.
Health and beauty gifts
If you know your mum’s favourite perfume, you’re bound to be a big hit by purchasing it for their Mother’s Day gift! But if you’re not sure, opt for other health and beauty gifts to help them feel indulged and glowing. The ESPA Overnight Hydration Therapy cream is luxurious and helps dry skin bounce back by the next morning.
For more mums who want to improve their health but might not be confident or able to go to the gym, consider a low impact gadget like the Amonax Electric Seated Pedal Exerciser. Designed for seated use, it helps improve blood circulation, strengthen leg muscles, and support mobility.
Home and garden gifts
For the houseproud mum, a gift that helps them enjoy their home is always a good bet. That could be something to help them snuggle on the sofa in the evening, like the Beurer XL Heated Blanket, or enjoy their cooking session with a pretty Laura Ashley blender set or gorgeous pastels of the GreenPan Padova kitchenware collection.
Or, if your mum hasn’t yet got onto the air fryer trend, check out Cosori’s new TwinFry Dual Blaze Air Fryer in rose gold – sleek, sophisticated, and suitable for every level of cook. If an airfryer already has pride of place, consider complementing it with a Swan 20L Nordic Digital microwave, which makes it easy to cook or reheat leftovers while looking very stylish on the counter.
For the eager music lover or radio listener, the gorgeous options from VQ with their Hepburn digital radios will suit any décor. The radio is portable with the additional battery, which makes it perfect for taking into the garden on sunny days for a relaxing listen with a cup of tea! If your mum is more of a bedtime radio listener, consider something like the Beurer WL50 Wake Up to Daylight Lamp to give them a gentle wake up and doze off each end of the day while they listen.
If your mother figure constantly struggles with a stuffy nose, they might have allergies to their environment. The gift of an air purifier could help reduce their suffering and help them breathe better! Levoit Air Purifiers offer a range of sizes to suit budgets and needs, from personal sizes with aromatherapy options to large room sizes that filter particles down to 0.3microns in size. Perfect for those with pet dander, pollen, or dust allergies!
Mother’s Day activities to enjoy together
You could combine your gift with a day out! Or several, if you decide to gift an English Heritage or National Trust membership to your mum to enjoy lots of historical sites and walks across the UK. Or for the creative type, consider a National Art Pass to give them access to hundreds of museums, galleries, and historic houses plus 50% off major exhibitions. For the film buff, check out a cinema gift card such as from Vue, Picturehouse, or the BFI for free tickets and member discounts.
Check your local restaurants for Mother’s Day specials and offers, too. You could get a great bargain or some freebie extras – without the hassle of cooking a meal yourself. For example, Prezzo is offering a free glass of prosecco to mums on Sunday 30th March, and that extends to all adults for any bookings arriving prior to 11.30am.
And if you travel together frequently, or want to make a promise to do so in the coming year, why not get a Two Together Railcard? It entitles both of you to a third off rail ticket prices, as long as you’re travelling together. What better gift to give your mum than the gift of time spent together!
