Polo fans have shared their excitement after spotting a new flavour in supermarkets, but some can’t hide their disappointment and have made calls for a discontinued variety to come back
Polo fans have shared their excitement after discovering a new mint flavour hitting supermarket aisles. A shopper uploaded a snap of the new Polo Berry Mint variety to the New Foods UK Facebook page, triggering a flurry of responses.
While numerous people voiced their enthusiasm, others lamented the demise of one of their cherished flavours. Reacting to the post, one person commented: “Bring back fruit Polos,” with another echoing: “Bring back the fruity Polos.” Meanwhile, over on Reddit, another person revealed their passion for Fruit Polos, sharing: “When I was pregnant two years ago, I managed to get them from Amazon because I was really craving them.”
Someone else said: “You can still get them. Don’t tend to see them in many shops these days, but they are still around and places like Amazon sell them.
“The packaging looks different though – not as vibrant as the old design. It’s a pretty plain-looking one now. I do miss the other varieties of Polo that we got in the 90s though, like Citrus Sharp and Gummies.
“I’d also forgotten about the Butter Ups version, presumably because they weren’t very nice… I can’t remember.”
At the same time, other fans said they’d be delighted to see citrus and chocolate Polos making a comeback on supermarket shelves. Fruit Polos were officially axed by Nestlé in the UK back in December 2023 owing to lacklustre sales figures.
When asked about their disappearance on X, Nestlé UK responded: “Unfortunately, our Polo Fruits and Polo Gummies were not as popular as others in the range and have been discontinued. But we’ll surely let the team know you’d like to see them back.”
That said, Berry Mint isn’t the sole new variety Polo has launched this month – the brand has simultaneously rolled out an extra strong mint addition to its sugar-free collection.
Sophie Browning, brand manager for POLO and Rowntree’s at Nestlé UK and Ireland, commented: “At POLO, we love that fresh breath feeling and these new sugar-free flavours offer even more ways to enjoy that signature POLO freshness.
“We’re proud to make them right here in York, continuing our heritage whilst moving our sugar-free offerings forward.”
The fresh POLO Sugar-Free Extra Strong Mint and POLO Sugar-Free Berry Mint are now stocked in shops across the country.
Both newcomers are priced consistently with the main POLO singles collection.
The Oral Health Foundation acknowledges that POLO Sugar-Free Mints serve as a beneficial tool for maintaining oral health.
Reacting to the online buzz, one person posted: “Need to try these.” A second said: “I want it.”
