The issue hit supermarket stores this morning, with shoppers unable to claim discounts in stores through the More Loyalty scheme, click and collect orders being delayed, and food deliveries being cancelled

Morrisons has issued a huge update after being hit by a major technical fault this morning.

The issue hit supermarket stores this morning, with shoppers unable to claim discounts in stores through the More Loyalty scheme. One disgruntled shopper took to social media to share that they had ended up paying 69p for carrots instead of the festive offer of 10p because of issues with the service. Reports on Downdetector showed that over 300 customers flagged a problem with their Morecard today.

Another shopper wrote on X: “I’ve just wasted an hour of my life shopping at Morrisons only to find out by checking my receipt that I’ve been charged £40 more than I should because the More Cards aren’t working. No communication at all, so loads have probably overspent without knowing.”

Supermarket stores are still experiencing issues with the More Loyalty scheme and Morrisons has issued an update for customers who are getting caught in it. In a statement published to X – formerly Twitter – the supermarket said it would be giving all Morrisons More customers 10% off their entire supermarket shop as an apology.

Alongside this, Morrisons has made the More Card discount price – which is obtained when you scan your Morrisons Morecard at the till – the usual price for all items. This includes the supermarket’s festive 10p offer for Christmas vegetables such as parsnips, carrots, and swede. Alongside this, those who have “More Fivers” to redeem will have them applied manually by staff in store. #

A Morrisons spokesperson said: “Today we are experiencing some system issues which are affecting our More Card customers. For More Card customers who have Morrisons Fivers to redeem, these will be done manually in store by colleagues. All our stores have now made the top 100 More Card prices the regular price – including the 10p veg deal, turkeys, spirits and champagne. And in addition we will give More Card customers an extra 10% off their entire shop as an apology.”

Alongside this issue, Morrisons food deliveries have also been affected, with the chain warning that many of them will be arriving much later than expected. Finally, click and collect orders have also been impacted with orders not reading for the booked collection time. Morrisons says people with a click and collect order for today should wait until they are emailed by the supermarket for an update time before heading to stores. A Morrisons spokesperson told the Mirror: “We sincerely apologise to our customers for this inconvenience.”

Commenting on the issues today, Sue Davies, Which? head of food policy, said: “Just days before Christmas, Morrisons’ customers will be understandably frustrated to find that they are unable to use their loyalty card discounts and that some online orders have been cancelled. Morrisons should work quickly to resolve these issues and ensure their customers receive their orders and are able to use loyalty discounts on their Christmas food shop.”
