A couple have told of their disgust after discovering a packet of buns they bought from Morrisons was “riddled with flies”.
Braden Maunder and Savannah Padfield reported experiencing stomach pains and dizziness some hours after eating the sweet Belgian bread bun. The pair had purchased the snack from a Morrisons petrol station and said when they later returned, they found other packets were crawling with bugs.
After the pair reported the “disgusting” incident, the supermarket confirmed the buns have been “removed from sale.” Mr Maunder and Ms Padfield bought the snacks rom a store in Totton, Hants.
Around four hours after eating the treat, both started to experience stomach pains and dizziness. Mr Maunder said he was forced to call an ambulance after his girlfriend’s diabetes began to flare up. Unsure of what caused the sickness, the couple by chance returned to the store – and were shocked to find flies on the Belgian buns on sale. They recorded shocking video footage which shows insects inside the packaging of the Belgian buns.
Mr Maunder, 26, said: “We were really confused as to what had caused us to feel ill – we had only eaten what we would usually – apart from the Belgian buns. I didn’t think much of it but happened to go back into the petrol station on Tuesday and it quickly became very clear what had happened.
“I found all the Belgian bun boxes absolutely riddled with flies inside the packaging. We could not believe it because these were on a shelf ready for the next person to pick up and eat – absolutely disgusting.”
The couple have since said that they will not be going back to the petrol station in future. Morrisons has said it will be conducting a full investigation and Motor Fuel Group has apologised on behalf of the garage. A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We take this matter very seriously, and will be investigating further with the store.”
A spokesperson for Motor Fuel Group, which oversees Morrisons’ petrol stations, added: “We regret to hear about the concerns raised regarding the Morrisons Totton station. Please rest assured that we are actively investigating this matter. We have already communicated with the store, and the product in question has been removed from sale.”
In a separate incident, an Australian woman was left disgusted after she ordered a steak at a restaurant – and noticed something horribly wrong with it. The diner, from the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, visited Lone Star Rib House Penrith in Jamisontown with her husband and son on November 10. The family headed out for a “nice meal” but were disappointed after the mum allegedly found live maggots in her steak.
She said she noticed something wrong “within seconds of it landing on the table” and her husband initially believed it could have been seasoning. However, after taking a closer look, he spotted the tiny insects.
The woman, who doesn’t want to be identified, said she showed the plate to a staff member who pointed out the restaurant’s high star food and health safety rating. She told ABC News that the restaurant offered her a replacement meal but she refused it as she was “grossed out” and responded: “No, I can’t eat here. I just want to leave.”
