Morrisons shoppers should be aware that its opening times may be a little different this bank holiday Monday.

Morrisons stores will be open as normal on Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. But on the bank holiday Monday, May 4, its branches may close earlier than normal, depending on where you live.

On bank holiday Monday, the majority of large Morrisons supermarkets in England and Wales will open from 7am to 8pm. There will be no change for smaller Morrisons Daily convenience stores.

In Scotland, there are no legal restrictions on trading hours for large shops on Sundays or bank holidays. This means Morrisons stores in Scotland should be open as normal on the bank holiday Monday.

It comes after Morrisons announced it was putting around 200 jobs at risk at its head office as part of a major restructure. The supermarket launched a consultation earlier this month over the proposed job cuts.

The cuts will be spread across roles at its Hilmore House headquarters, impacting less than 10% of jobs at the site. Morrisons said it plans to step up its use of AI across its operations.

Last month, Morrisons revealed further sales growth as it continues to drive a turnaround under boss Rami Baitieh. The retailer said it was “tough for customers right now”, and committed to further investment in pricing to support shoppers.

A Morrisons spokesman said: “As we evolve and adapt, we are proposing to make some changes to a number of areas within our central structure.

“This will involve making some tough but necessary decisions which will impact on colleagues in our head office, where we are proposing to place a number of roles at risk of redundancy.

“We understand this will be difficult news for these colleagues and will be offering them our full support, including helping them to find alternative roles elsewhere in the business wherever we can. A consultation process with colleagues has now commenced.”

Last year, the company started a long-term programme to overhaul its central business operations.
