Charlie Bullock, 30, proposed to fiancée Hannah McNaghten on holiday in Barcelona – but the phone he used to capture the moment was suddenly grabbed by a thief

Shocking footage shows the moment a brazen thief tries to steal a British man’s phone while he proposes to his girlfriend on holiday.
Charlie Bullock, 30, surprised fiancée Hannah McNaghten on their recent getaway in Barcelona by going down on one knee, and set up his mobile in the street to capture the memorable moment. But, just seconds after popping the question to Hannah, 26, a thief swooped in and ran off with his mobile.
Luckily, Charlie was able to thwart him and get his phone back after Hannah saw what happened. The drama unfolded as the couple visited the Arc de Triomf on Sunday.
Telecommunications engineer, Charlie had decided to make his move, and propped up his phone on the wall as the two posed for what Hannah thought was just a normal photograph. In the footage, Hannah starts to make her way towards the phone before Charlie drops to one knee.
He takes a ring out of his pocket, and their magical proposal moment is captured on camera. But just as they embrace one another, a thief makes a desperate attempt to snatch the phone. The man, who was wearing a black coat, walks towards the phone and grabbed it just as the video cut.
Reflecting on the unexpected twist to their romantic moment, Charlie, of Newbury, Berkshire, who has been with Hannah for a year and a half, said: “It ruined the moment slightly. Thank you Hannah for being alert to the phone thief. I just wanted to propose to my girlfriend and some lovely guy wanted to steal my phone.
“He immediately handed it back. I didn’t notice, my partner did, I only knew because she shouted at him and upon turning round he was handing the phone back.
After the video went was shared online, many warned them to be more careful with their belongings – but also said they were happy for the pair. One said: “Leaving your phone unattended in Barcelona was bold.”
Someone else added: “This is the issue with modern times, people think they can leave their phones on this side because it ‘shouldn’t’ get stolen.”
Another person said: “Leaving your phone unattended in Barcelona is madness, but congratulations.” The couple didn’t report the incident to police because they got the phone back.
