Drug dealer jumps onto officer after police use chainsaw to break door down

Footage has captured the moment a drug dealer bursts through a door and into awaiting policemen – while wearing nothing more than a pair of pants.

Abdulaziz Haruna, 26, was involved in a “large scale” drug operation worth approximately £280,000, Sheffield Crown Court heard. The court heard that police had recovered evidence of an active drugs line named “MO” following which officers carried out multiple raids on Haruna’s dome on Middlewood Drive East in Sheffield.

During one initial raid in February 2023, South Yorkshire Police officers found slips of paper advertising the drugs line at the property, and said the 26-year-old vehemently denied wrongdoing at the time, but he reacted much more dramatically during a follow-up in May that year. Footage released by police shows the moment chainsaw-wielding officers yelp as Haruna bursts through his glass door.

The footage shows the moment Haruna “came crashing through the door” and onto the ground outside, where he climbs up to a police officer. Haruna then attempts to flee but an officer, who could be heard shouting at the shock of the drug dealer’s shock move, was soon arrested.

He was quickly treated for injuries he received after he scraped his exposed skin on the shattered glass. Police said Haruna initially tried to deny any offences were committed during a police interview, but that an “overwhelming amount of evidence” meant he “had no choice” but to plead guilty to the supply of crack cocaine and heroin during a hearing at Bradford Crown Court on 22 January 2024.

Appearing in court following the unusual incident, Haruna pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs, and was jailed for seven years and three months. Detective Constable Darcy Hope said following Haruna’s sentence that the dealer had “seriously endangered his own safety” following the stunt in mid-2023, adding that he was involved in a “sophisticated drug dealing enterprise”.

She said: “Haruna denied any wrongdoing when we initially searched his home in February 2023. But his desperate attempt to escape arrest during our second visit – in which he seriously endangered his own safety – suggested otherwise. This has been a complex investigation involving numerous lines of inquiry which led to us being able to expose Haruna’s role in a sophisticated drug dealing enterprise.”

Det Con Hope continued: “Drugs have a huge impact on vulnerable members of our society who are taken advantage of by criminals who don’t care who they hurt as long as they are making money. This was demonstrated by Haruna posting pictures to his Snapchat account which showed him posing with large amounts of cash.

“Friday’s result is the culmination of a lengthy process and I am pleased that Haruna will now be spending Christmas behind bars thanks to the work of our dedicated team.”
