Brick-wielding thieves steal £6k worth of loot from suit shop
The moment two brick-wielding thieves smashed a shop front window and looted thousands of pounds worth of goods before making off on their bikes has been caught on video.
Both men were caught on CCTV stealing around £6,000 worth of items from a suit shop in Spitalfields, east London, at around 4am earlier today. The Batch LDN store in Commercial Street, was targeted with some of their window display items taken by the men on bikes, according to the co-founder.
The footage shows that two men on bikes were scouting out the area before one rode past and left two bricks outside the shopfront. A police car patrolling past almost put the thieves off before they made their move.
The two were seen on the footage riding over to the shop, and smashing the window with the bricks before stuffing their bags full of the expensive items. There were around 20 items nicked from the store, with 10 suits being taken, according to the co-founder.
Clothing taken from the shop was part of the business’s latest window display, which had only been put together around 10 days before the robbery. The new B06 AW24 line included Herringbone suits that were amongst the items stolen from the shop.
Samuel Matanle, 29, the co-founder of Batch LDN, told NeedToKnow: “In the space of 20 seconds they had stolen over £6,000 worth of stock. When I arrived at the shop in the morning it was just like f*ck, a little part of me was relieved they hadn’t stolen everything. It’s going to have a huge impact on sales as we’ll now need to get the suits remade which will take around four weeks.
“Just before 4am, two blokes, one on a white bike and one on a Lime bike came and scouted out the shop ready to make a steal. One dropped off two bricks, then they waited around for the perfect moment.
“They were nearly put off by a police car passing, but once the coast was clear they launched the two bricks through the window. The police are currently doing a forensics report on the bricks, this type of crime is on the rise in the area.”
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 05:15hrs on Thursday, 24 October to reports of a burglary at a shop in Commercial Road, E1. A window had been smashed and items of clothing stolen.
“An investigation into the circumstances, including securing any forensic opportunities and analysing CCTV, is under way. There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.”
