Victoria Taylor: Police continue search for missing mum in Malton

Worried friends of missing mum Victoria Taylor are planning a huge line sweep of the river path where she vanished as the mystery surrounding her disappearance deepens.

Pals have turned out in force scouring through the thorny vegetation along the River Derwent in Malton, Yorks. Victoria, 34, who has a one-year-old daughter, was last seen on CCTV on Monday buying soft drinks from a petrol station in the town.

After she vanished the soft drinks bottles were discovered by her family in a clearing along the path. Police confirmed these had been bought on Victoria’s card at the garage. Officers then found what is believed to be her green camouflage cap she’d been wearing on the CCTV footage. Officers also found her rucksack, a salmon pink Vans brand.

On Friday friends were walking the footpath using large branches to comb through bracken for any more clues on Victoria’s disappearance as the search entered its fifth day this morning. Another group had gone to a section of the river by a nearby golf course where the current flows to a shallow patch.

One friend, who asked not to be named, said: “we just need as many people to see her face as possible and help us look for her. The current runs towards the golf club so they’re thinking something might hopefully turn up there.”

Police search experts have also been in kayaks along the river up to the next village. But Victoria’s sister’s Heidi and Emma have raised concerns about the extent of the search being conducted by officers.

Friends told the Mirror that dogs and helicopters have not been dispatched over the dense river path since Victoria went missing. In an effort to try and collect more clues Victoria’s family and friends are now calling for helpers to meet at a nearby pub and do a line sweep of her last known route.

Stacks of missing posters are being handed out from the Derwent Arms which has pledged to stand as a base for volunteers who want to help. A close friend of missing mum Victoria has said she “won’t give up” finding her as the search for her continues into day five.

A Facebook group called ‘The search for Victoria Taylor’ has been set up by Charlotte Cundill and currently has over 4,500 members. Victoria’s friends and family, including Charlotte, have posted in the group that they “won’t give up” on finding the mum, who is originally from Huddersfield, West Yorks. Charlotte said: “Day five let’s do this. “Let’s get you home beautiful. “I won’t give up.”

Someone else commented said: “I don’t think that anyone who knew Victoria will give up on her. “I only knew her because my mum spent her final years at Rivermead Care Home where she worked. “Victoria was a truly caring, compassionate and patient person.

“I know it was her job but I always got the impression that she genuinely cared. On the day that mum passed Victoria looked after not only mum but also my sister and I and we will never forget her kindness.”

Another said: “So proud of my little town. “Hundreds of people out day and night looking for Victoria, strangers and friends alike. “Nobody is giving up.”
