The Met Office forecasts more drizzle for parts of Wales and the Southwest of England today — after more than 23mm of rain fell across Pembrokeshire on Wednesday
Brits in nearly 20 places should prepare for flooding, according to the Met Office and Environment Agency.
Families near waterways likely to burst their banks in the coming days should gather key items, such as torches, batteries and mobile phone power packs, in an “emergency kit”. These packs will help them manage if they are forced to evacuate their homes, a dire situation which is possible as more rain is to batter parts of Wales and the Southwest of England today.
Many of the 17 flood warnings concern areas in these regions, with the severest alert for the River Ritec at Tenby, a seaside town in Pembrokeshire. Caravan parks to the west of the town are particularly vulnerable, according to Natural Resources Wales. It says: “Significant disruption to the community is ongoing. Severe flooding is ongoing. Flooding to property is ongoing. Severe impacts are ongoing in this area. Water levels may remain high for several days due to restriction of the tidal outfall. This is likely to result in water levels rising over the period of each high tide.”
Nine other flood warnings are in place for Wales, while there are seven concerning parts of England and one for Scotland; around Glen Lyon in Perth and Kinross. There are dozens more less severe alerts, but authorities stress the warnings – illustrated by the red triangles on the map below – are particularly concerning at the moment.

There are three warnings in Cornwall alone, including for the South Cornwall coast from Lizard Point to Gribbin Head excluding the Tidal Fal Estuary. The Environment Agency says people there should avoid beaches and coastal promenades, as they may already be flooded.
Similar hazards present at Poole Harbour in Dorset, following the high tide yesterday. More rain is expected across the Southwest of England today, following showers throughout Wednesday.
Flooding is expected along the River Crake Valley in Cumbria too. Low Nibthwaite, Lowick Bridge, Spark Bridge and Penny Bridge are thought to be affected significantly. The Environment Agency warns people there to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through floodwater.
Met Office weather warnings were in place for parts of south Wales and the Southwest of England and, though these have ceased, those living around any area subject to flood warnings such prepare for the worst. The national weather agency says: “Consider preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.” People are also urged to prepare for potential power cuts by gathering torches, batteries and mobile phone power packs.
