UK weather maps show snow could hit parts of the UK in the final days of April, with Scotland, northern England and even Birmingham set to be affected by blizzards and icy conditions

Some parts of the UK could experience snow towards the month’s end as the prolonged spell of unsettled weather persists, forecasters understand.

A long-range forecast from the Met Office indicated that while sunny intervals might reach the country initially, northerly winds delivering wintry showers to northern and eastern coastlines, and some snow could subsequently return, particularly in northern Scotland.

The forecast, spanning Tuesday, April 21 to Thursday, April 30, stated: “High pressure to the north of the UK will bring plenty of dry weather and sunny spells at first. A few scattered showers are possible in central and eastern areas.

“Parts of the east coast could be on the chilly side with low cloud and an onshore breeze, but further west it will feel quite warm, especially in sunnier areas. By the weekend, unsettled weather is signalled to return, but confidence in the details is low with a range of scenarios possible. One scenario is for a northerly wind bringing wintry showers to northern and eastern coasts, and some snow over Scottish mountains. If this does occur it will probably not last more than a few days, before high pressure attempts to return towards the end of the month.”

Other regions of the UK, meanwhile, could be affected by snow during the same timeframe. Maps from WXCharts.com suggest a cold snap that might bring frigid temperatures and snow to areas of the UK on Saturday, April 25. The chilliest regions will be across the north of the UK, encompassing Scotland and northern England. Certain parts of Scotland, particularly around Aberdeen, could witness as much as 6cm of snow. Blizzards, though, could also strike as far south as Birmingham, the same charts indicate, reports the Express.

Additional areas expected to be affected include the north west of England, particularly around Blackpool and Manchester, which could see 3cm of snow coverage.

April’s weather has been erratic so far, featuring a succession of mini heatwaves and cold spells. These snow blizzards will be succeeded by a 23C scorcher on Wednesday, April 29, the latest forecast suggests.
