The Met Office expects temperatures to rise to 26C in the UK this week – making the British Isles hotter than holiday hotspots across Europe.
The Met Office’s latest weather forecast predicts highs of 26C in southern areas on Friday, with northern regions expecting 24C heat. Tomorrow also looks set to be toasty, with 24C coming in the south and 22C in the north.
However, temperatures are only expected to hit 19C in the Greek holiday resort on Zante on Friday. People in Benidorm, Spain are set for measly highs of just 21C.
Temperature anomaly maps have turned deep red ahead of Friday, indicating large swathes of the UK will see the mercury rise well above the seasonal average. The hottest day of the year so far was 26.5C – meaning Friday could top that.

The UKV weather model predicts highs of 25C on Friday, with the best of the temperatures coming in south-east England. It shows the mercury could rise to 24C in the Midlands and Yorkshire too.
Temperatures should reach 20C or above in most of England, barring the south-west. The data suggests parts of North Wales and southern Scotland could hit 21C.

The Met Office says there could be thunderstorms on Friday despite the “warm and humid” conditions. Its forecast states: “Warm and humid on Friday, with sunny spells and a few heavy showers or thunderstorms. Sunny spells and showers Saturday and Sunday, some heavy and thundery. Turning a little cooler.”
BBC weather forecast for Friday
The BBC expects a mixture of sunshine and showers on Friday. Its forecast states: “On Friday, it will turn cloudier in the north with one or two showers in the afternoon. Further south and west, a mix of scattered showers and sunshine. Turning warmer in the south and south-east.
“Over the weekend, it will become unsettled and cloudier with frequent scattered showers for England and Wales, with a chance of thunder. Cloudier with lighter showers further north.”
