Confirmed cases have fallen from 23 to 20 as more than 8,000 vaccines have been administered during the four-day vaccination campaign in the south-east of England
Everything you need to know as meningitis cases drop
- Meningitis cases in Kent have dropped from 34 to 29 as the vaccination campaign enters its fourth day.
- Confirmed cases fell from 23 to 20 after further testing by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). Suspected cases under investigation also dropped from 11 to nine.
- Nineteen of the 20 confirmed cases are meningitis B, with all requiring hospital admission. More than 8,000 vaccines and 12,157 antibiotics have been administered.
- Queues for vaccines have shortened considerably since Wednesday, with no queue at the previously busy University of Kent Canterbury campus by Sunday morning.
- Dr Sherine Thomas from UKHSA said: “It’s reassuring to have seen so many eligible young people come forward for antibiotics and vaccination.”
- The outbreak has tragically claimed two lives – 18-year-old Juliette Kenny and another University of Kent student. Kenny was described by her family as “fit, healthy and strong” before her death.
