The Duchess has seemingly hit back at Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘shady’ breakfast video by sharing one of her own on Instagram – but she made a common blunder during filming
Meghan Markle has raised eyebrows by seemingly firing back at Gwyneth Paltrow in what fans have dubbed their ‘breakfast war’.
It all began when Goop founder Gwyneth, 52, shared a video showing her making breakfast inside her home, makeup-free and wearing her pyjamas. Her followers believed that it poked fun at With Love, Meghan – for which the perfectly polished Duchess chose to rent a £6.2million farmhouse, rather than film in her own home.
Fans also pointed to the fact that Gwyneth chose This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole for the video’s background song – the same track used in the promotional material for Meghan’s series, which was universally panned by critics.

But Meghan, 43, has seemingly retaliated by posting two videos on her Instagram Stories, featuring her friend, Kelly McKee Zajfen. The two women can be seen preparing a “re-invented banana split” for breakfast.
For the first clip, the Duchess stood behind the camera giggling while Kelly added fresh fruit and granola on top of yogurt and jam-covered banana slices. Meghan tagged her own brand, As Ever, in the post, writing, “When one of your besties reinvents a banana split for breakfast.”

But the video wasn’t without its issues; followers noted that towards the end, Meghan kept putting her finger over the camera lens, interfering with the view. Fans on social media wasted no time jumping into the drama. One person wrote on X: “Omg! Meghan & Kelly try to throw shade back at Gwyneth Paltrow! This is a game they are going to lose.”
In her own breakfast video, Gwyneth can be seen making bacon, eggs and buttermilk biscuits. The clip starts with the actress taking a sip out of her coffee mug while looking directly into the camera. She then puts a pan of biscuits in the oven before doing a high kick and kissing her dog.
The video concludes with the mum of two showing off her full meal, along with the caption: “My cleaner take on a classic breakfast: gluten-free buttermilk biscuits, not-so-perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, and crispy bacon #boyfriendbreakfast.”
Viewers went wild. “And being as relatable as she can be, in her PJs, hair not styled, no make-up, sipping coffee. No one praising her. Just her phone filming. Simple and easy,” one wrote.

A second said: “Gwyneth Paltrow continues to throw shade & I’m here for it! No make-up in her actual kitchen!” A third added: “Even the music… that’s Natalie Cole this will be (an EVER lasting love)!” And a fourth simply said: “THATS how to be relatable, Meghan.”
It comes after Gwyneth gave her opinion on Meghan and her ‘attempts’ to become a lifestyle guru, in an interview with Vanity Fair. Despite both living nearby in Montecito, the star revealed: “I don’t know Meghan and Harry. I mean, I’ve met Meghan, who seems really lovely, but I don’t know her at all. Maybe I’ll try to get through their security detail and bring them a pie.”
She also admitted she hasn’t seen the trailer for With Love, Meghan, but she added: “I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes. I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”
