McDonald’s are coming at us again with another menu that’s only sticking around for six weeks – so Mirror writer Danielle Kate Wroe had to see what all the fuss was about

McDonald’s is constantly changing up their tasty offerings, but this time, fans of the Chicken Big Mac (including myself) can rejoice, because it’s back for a limited time.

Maccies has officially redeemed themselves in my eyes after reinstating the chicken version of the world-famous burger on its brand new menu, and truly, I wish they’d stop teasing me and just leave it as a menu option all year round. For the past six weeks, they’ve had the McCrispy Deluxe, but it just doesn’t hit the spot in the same way, in my humble opinion. So, it’s time for the old menu to move over and for the Cheese and Herb Melts, Chicken Big Mac, Deluxe Quarter Pounder, Galaxy Caramel Pie, Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry, Biscoff McFlurry, and Lotus Biscoff Frappe to take centre stage – for six weeks. Sadly, the Lotus Biscoff Frappe wasn’t available for me to try, but social media users have said it looks “unreal”.

The Chicken Big Mac is a Maccies firm favourite for me, and it truly didn’t disappoint, yet again. I’m not the biggest fan of beef burgers, preferring to save them for when the mood really takes me, but chicken + all the trimmings of a Big Mac = 10/10. Usually, burger sauce doesn’t tickle my pickle (pardon the pun) but there’s just something about the McDonald’s one that stands out from the crowd – making it a true fast food showstopper. I have, previously, in desperation when it’s not on the Maccies menu, tried imitations of it from other retailers…and I’d just recommend you don’t make the same mistake as I did and wait for when it’s available from the OG.

Now, the Double Quarter Pounder Deluxe, as I’ve already mentioned, isn’t usually up my street – but this one was really good. It was packed with flavour, was very saucy, and admittedly a little messy to eat – so probably don’t eat it if you’re really trying to impress the person you’re with. The addition of an extra beef patty definitely makes it taste ultra-rich, and a little sickly if you’re not usually a beef lover – but honestly, even as a hardcore chicken fan, this really did taste good.

Cheese and Herb Melts are a menu item that again, struggles to disappoint. Even on the occasions when your hungover Maccies meal arrives a little cold, somehow the cheesy goods still taste nice. Served with a rich tomato dip, this share box certainly went down a treat and is the cheeky extra you’ll certainly want when ordering your meal. Plus, they arrived at a great temperature, which always makes things 100 times better.

Now, moving on to the three dessert options that are back. First up, the Galaxy Caramel Pie, which was part of the Christmas 2023 menu. I was a little bit baffled by this one because it arrived piping hot – yet completely empty. Yep, that’s right, it had absolutely no filling. So I feel as though I can’t give an accurate and fair review of it, because there was literally…nothing inside it. I’m sure it would be absolutely divine, but I’m seriously disappointed with what I received. The crispiness of the pastry was lovely, don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy my sweet-tooth, and I had to use my imagination about what it probably tasted like.

Next up, I tried the Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry and the Biscoff McFlurry. I’m not really an ice cream person and would opt for the pie alternative, but I was impressed by the softness of the ice cream, and of course, the stars of the shows are the toppings that you can get at the moment. If push came to shove and I had to choose my favourite one, though, I’d probably opt for the Biscoff offering.

With the Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry, the chocolate that sits on the top is seriously yummy, and the caramel swirled through it adds another layer of taste sensation. The Biscoff version may not boast any caramel running through it, but the crunchy biscuit is enough to satisfy, and as you can see, they were seriously generous with the toppings. If you’re an ice cream lover, I’d seriously recommend you grab one of these.

Now, all that’s left for me to do is wait a little while before it’s acceptable for me to order another Galaxy Caramel Pie, and cross my fingers that my next one comes with some filling because I can imagine it’s totally tasty.
