Matalan’s new coat is a hit with shoppers – and it looks just like a designer version

Matalan is selling a new coat that could easily be mistaken for one by outdoor clothing brand The North Face. The retailer is well known for it’s affordable fashion – and now it might have a new fan favourite.

The high street store is selling the cream Padded Fleece Coat, which looks very similar to North Face’s Retro Denali Jacket but for a fraction of the cost. The two feature almost identical fleece linings and a water-resistant outer shell.

They also have an almost identical colour block design and zip front. However, the North Face jacket has different pockets at the front.

Matalan took to Instagram this week to share the new coat, alongside the caption: “Yep, we’re definitely gonna need a bigger wardrobe this Autumn/Winter.” The post racked up hundreds of likes and a number of comments from excited fans.

Among them, one person said: “This looks so cosy and warm”, while a second wrote: “toasty.” Another shopper added: “Oh don’t……..I’m all fleeced out……!”

The Matalan product description reads: “Keep warm and stylish this winter with our Khaki Padded Fleece Coat. This versatile coat is perfect for layering on chilly days, or wearing as a standalone piece when the weather is milder.

“It features a cosy fleece lining and a water-resistant outer shell, so you can stay comfortable and dry even in the harshest weather conditions. The khaki colour is easy to match with any outfit, making this coat a must-have addition to your winter wardrobe.”

While the North Face Retro Denali Jacket is priced at £190, the Matalan version comes in at £38. This means shoppers could potentially save around £152 by opting for the high street alternative.
