A mass brawl between groups of men “carrying makeshift weapons” in a town centre in Wales has led to eight people being arrested.
Gwent Police confirmed a large brawl between the groups started at High Street in Blackwood just before 3pm. A simliar disorder was carried out at Newbridge High Street jusr minutes later and roads in the area were closed off by officers.
Paramedics were called to both scenes, with eight people in custody. Social media footage online showed a number of men carrying makeshift weapons during the brawl. Superintendent Mike Preston said: “We’ve brought this disorder in Blackwood and Newbridge to its conclusion and there is no ongoing danger to the public.
“We currently have eight men in police custody at this time for offences linked to the disorder and they will be undergoing questioning after we understand the full extent of the injuries sustained.”
Gwent Police has asked for the public’s help with its enquiries, WalesOnline reported. Superintendent Preston added: “If you have any information on the identities of anyone involved, or details that could assist our enquires then please contact us immediately.
“This behaviour is completely unacceptable and we will take action against anyone intent on causing this level of harm and disorder in our communities.”
