Shoppers are saying that this Marks & Spencer fragrance is a close alternative to YSL’s Black Opium – and can save you £90 by buying this one instead

We love testing and shopping for new perfumes, always on the lookout for our new signature scent. However, there’s one fragrance in particular that has been a hit with wearers since its release in 2014, and had even been hailed as “the perfect scent” by shoppers: Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Parfum.

While it’s certainly a popular option amongst shoppers, it usually comes with a price tag of £100 for a 50ml bottle. However, savvy shoppers have found that Marks & Spencer have come along with an alternative fragrance that is said to rival the famous perfume. M&S’s Midnight Blossom Eau de Toilette perfume retails for £10 for a big 100ml bottle, so is immediately an excellent bargain.

The M&S fragrance consists of notes of sweet jasmine, tuberose and amber, where as YSL’s Black Opium has notes such as mandarin, white flowers, cedarwood essence and white musk, making them similar but the not the same.

The high street product has received over 100 five-star reviews and shoppers have been quick to share their thoughts. One commented, “Wonderful scent with a combination of sweet jasmine hint of musk and a touch of woody and as soon as I used this I did think that this did have similar fragrant notes to a well known premium brand.”

Another followed with, “These M&S perfumes are so beautiful and delicate, why buy the expensive ones. Such good value also.”

“Midnight blossom is a lovely fragrance & lasts all day, similar to black opium, love it,” said a third. Another responded with “I read this perfume smelt like black opium and as a wearer of over 10 years I can confirm it is.”

If you’re a big fan of this scent then Marks & Spencer also have it available in a Shower Gel and a Body Lotion, both retailing for £5.

Another shopper shared how M&S’s Apothecary Warmth Eau de Parfum is a similar alternative to Le Labo’s £172 Santal 33 Eau de Parfum, saying: “It’s very similar to my Le Labo expensive scent and 10th of the price.”

Meanwhile another suggested that supermarket’s Velvet Amber Eau de Toilette, which also retails for £10, is an alternative to Mugler’s £105 Alien Eau De Parfum, writing, “Great perfume. Smells so much like Alien at a fraction of the price,” in the reviews.
